York's tone was eerily calm, his voice barely raised, yet every single word struck like a deafening thunderclap, instantly snapping Xavier out of his rage.
If Project Insight was halted again, The Shaw Group would be set back a full decade.
Xavier simply couldn't afford to suffer those consequences.
He took a ragged breath and awkwardly lowered his hand.
A second later, a voice rang out, carrying two sharp words: "Apologize!"
The voice sounded a bit foreign, yet carried an inexplicable sense of familiarity.
Willow instinctively turned her head. The man was dressed in a sharp black suit, a baseball cap pulled low over his eyes, and a pair of glasses and a face mask completely obscuring his features. Dressed like that, even his own mother wouldn't be able to recognize him.
Willow couldn't recall knowing anyone like him. She tried to get a better look, but the man had positioned himself at a clever angle right behind York. Since they were roughly the same height, he was almost entirely shielded from her view.
Refusing to give up, Willow leaned to the side, but every single time she did, the man subtly adjusted his stance, deliberately keeping himself hidden!
If Willow couldn't tell this guy was acting insanely suspicious by now, she'd be an absolute idiot!
Who could it be? Someone intentionally helping her, yet desperate to hide his identity...
Lucian?
The height matched, but the tufts of hair poking out from under the cap were completely the wrong color.
This man's hair was pitch black, not like Lucian's, which had a faint golden hue.
Willow lowered her eyes. Then again, hair color could easily be temporarily altered with dye spray.
She scrutinized him carefully and finally noticed a faint, star-shaped bulge in his pocket.
