Elias heard York's threat but didn't bother looking back.
While the Landon family was expanding into overseas markets, their main target was the Jagger family, not the Lockwoods. York's empty threats meant absolutely nothing to him!
There was no way the Jagger family would stick their necks out over a petty squabble!
Once the trio disappeared, Willow glanced at the empty space beside York. The man who had just been standing there was completely gone.
She let out a cynical scoff. He certainly ran fast enough.
York pulled a miserable face. "Willow, you really can't just say things like that."
Willow ignored his complaints and stared him down. "If you don't actually have feelings for me, why do you keep helping me over and over again?"
Why did he defend her online?
Why did he act as 'W', providing the only warmth she had ever known in her past life?
While her earlier declaration of love was mostly to irritate Lucian, she genuinely wanted answers for herself.
York met her serious gaze, and for a fleeting second, his heart skipped a beat.
He opened his mouth, but the explanation died on his tongue. He awkwardly averted his eyes. "I was just entrusted by someone."
Entrusted by someone. What a convenient excuse.
Willow didn't want to hear another word. She turned on her heel and walked away.
York stood there, deeply frustrated, having no idea how to explain the truth.
Was he just entrusted by someone?
Technically, yes.
But his mind kept flashing back to the scene that had just unfolded.
He pictured Willow's slender figure standing defiantly in front of Xavier. Even though her words had been sharp and mocking, he could sense a suffocating sadness beneath her bravado.
It was heartbreaking.
York forcefully pushed the image out of his head and retreated to the VIP lounge.
