Lucian froze, his striking silver-grey eyes fixed intensely on Willow.
So, she was serious about having feelings for York?
Why else would she draw such a strict boundary between them out of nowhere?
A massive wave of panic crashed over Lucian. He couldn't afford to wait anymore. He was the one who wanted to protect Willow, yet York had swooped in and stolen all the credit.
And now, it seemed York had stolen her heart as well.
He didn't argue. Instead, he masked the dark intensity swirling in his eyes and replied evenly, "Alright. I understand."
Willow gave a brief nod and headed into the bedroom without another word.
Just before drifting off to sleep, she remembered what Vivienne had told her. Vivienne had an empty apartment at Nocturne Heights and had offered to let Willow stay there whenever she wanted.
Willow hadn't seriously considered it before. She had just released her piano single, and given its rising popularity, she figured she would soon earn enough to rent a better place of her own.
But now...
She realized it was the perfect time to move out.
Willow needed to meet the CEO of Lycian Global, but that required successfully developing her bone cancer drug first. Since no mysterious benefactor was funding her in this life, she had to pay for the research herself.
Buying her own place would have to wait.
However, she couldn't stay in this apartment with Lucian any longer. They weren't an engaged couple, nor were they even close friends. Living together was only creating unnecessary tension and ambiguity.
It was time to cut ties cleanly.
Having made her decision, Willow finally fell into a deep sleep.
Her bedroom was tiny. Even with Lucian sleeping on a separate folding bed, they were incredibly close to each other.
