Betrayed by My Mafia Brother novel Chapter 80

Chapter 5

The moment the manager lifted the sheet, my entire body went cold.

I only needed one glance.

The woman lying on the ground, me, had her eyes wide open, frozen in horror even in death.

The oversized blue maternity dress I’d worn was soaked through with blood, a grotesque shade of crimson.

It took courage to look at my own corpse.

Alexander’s face gradually turned pale as he witnessed the scene.

I’d always cared about appearances, never extravagant like Lila, but neat, graceful.

This was the first and last time he’d ever see me like this: broken, filthy, utterly stripped of dignity.

“You’re saying this is Grace?”

His voice trembled slightly.

The park manager swallowed hard and nodded. “Yes, sir. This is Mrs. Hayes. You had her brought here yourself. remember? After you shut the park down, no one else came in or out.”

Alexander’s expression froze. Step by step, he walked closer to my body. Then, out of nowhere, he kicked it hard.

“Are you kidding me? This is Grace?!”

He pointed at the manager, fury distorting his features.

“And that dead stray cat earlier, you’re saying that was the baby?”

“Grace’s not the kind of venomous woman to die this easily. And the baby, didn’t the doctor say the due date was still a week away? How could she have given birth already?”

“Tell me,” he barked, ‘how much did she pay you to help her stage this?!”

The manager was shaking so badly his voice cracked.

‘Mr. Hayes, I swear, why would I lie to you? I’ve worked under your family for years, and everyone knows how deeply Mrs Hayes loved you. Even if you fooled yourself, she never would’ve fooled you.”

He was right. Everyone knew how hopelessly I’d loved Alexander.

The first time I met him was back in high school. Grandpa had just passed away, and my parents transferred me up

north.

Three years later, she returns as a ton surgeon and pianist with a rowwork

I wasn’t used to the climate, and one day I collapsed at my desk from a raging fever and stomach pain. Alexander, who

was class president back then, was the first to notice.

He carried me straight to the nurse’s office. Later, I found out my fever had spiked past 104 degrees, half an hour more

and I might have suffered brain damage.

When I thanked him, he just smiled and said he was only doing his duty as class president.

He stayed with me the whole afternoon, chatting softly while I was on an IV. pouring me water, checking on me from

time to time.

When he learned I’d just transferred, he said with that easy grin of his. “If you ever need anything, just come find me.”

With the stirrings of young love, my gaze couldn’t help but follow him from that moment on.

After graduation, I followed him quietly to the same university. I told myself I’d finally confess my feelings.

But before I could, tragedy struck. His mother, devastated by his father’s affair, tried to end both this ves by feeding

him sleeping pills and jumping off their apartment balcony.

I got there just in time to grab him before they fell. My arms were burning, my body shaking, but I held on until the

firefighters arrived.

When they finally got the safety cushion set up below, I blacked out and fell with him.

When I woke up, the first thing I did was run to see if he was okay. But by then, there was already another girl by his

side, Lila.

And it was after that day that Alexander, who had always been indifferent toward Lila, began a relationship with her.

Even though I attended the same school as Alexander, all I could do was watch helplessly as he and Lila became

entangled in their passionate love.

But their happiness didn’t last.

When the scandal about his father’s mistress and his mother’s suicide hit the news, the company stocks plummeted. Bankruptcy loomed over the Hayes family.

That was when Lila left him. Even then, Alexander made sure she had everything she needed to start over abroad

Six months later, news broke that Lala had married someone overseas.

Alexander’s father, ultimately unable to withstand the onslaught of public scrutiny and the collapse of his company jumped to his death from the same place where his wife had leapt

The bright, carefree boy I’d once known was gone.
