Betrayed by My Mafia Brother novel Chapter 84

# Chapter 9

When Lila saw Alexander’s expression, a flicker of triumph flashed in her eyes.

“Alex,’ she said softly, her lips curling. “You promised me before, once Grace gave birth, you’d divorce her and marry me. Now that she’s gone… what about us?”

“Don’t worry,” he replied gently. “I always keep my word. But since Grace died because of me, the least we can do is offer

her an apology first.”

His tone was tender, almost affectionate. His smile was soft.

But that smile made my ghostly heart freeze, it was the kind of gentleness that reeked of danger.

Lila, too caught up in her giddy anticipation, didn’t sense it at all.

She wiped away her tears and leaned up to kiss him, just like she used to. But Alexander turned his heathly letting

her lips graze air.

‘I’m tired,” he said with quiet exhaustion. “Three days from now, I’ll marry you.”

Lila frowned. It was the second time he had refused her touch lately.

Still, the thought of finally becoming Mrs. Hayes, of stepping into that gilded world she’d craved for years, was enough to

soothe her irritation.

Unlike my secret, cold marriage, hers would be grand, glorious, televised.

Over the next three days, Alexander made a spectacle of it. The media buzzed with the announcement of his upcoming

wedding.

Jewelry, dresses, flowers, everything arrived in endless deliveries.

Lila was drunk on the attention, dizzy with happiness, completely blind to the truth.

Until the day of the wedding.

In front of flashing cameras and live broadcasts, she stepped Into Alexander’s car, radiant in her white gown.

But the car didn’t take her to a church.

It took her to the amusement park, to the very Drop Tower that had taken my life.

Her smile faltered. ‘Alexander… isn’t today our wedding day? Why did we come here?”

“Grace died because of us,” he said softly, his hand firm on hers. “We owe her an apology’

Lila suppressed the fear and frustration in her heart, clutching the enormous diamond ring tightly in her hand.

The Drop Tower began to rise.

Halfway up, she realized the safety locks around her waist had quietly released.

Three hundred thirty feet above the ground, she hung precariously, screaming as the wind tore past.

Alexander looked up at her, eyes burning with madness and grief.

“Lila, isn’t this what you wanted?” His voice broke. “You lied, you schemed, you made me believe Grace was the monster.

but do you have any idea how desperate she was when she fell? How terrified?”

“It was her who saved me that day, not you! If you hadn’t stolen her place, if you hadn’t pretended to be my light. I never

would’ve hurt her! She’d still be alive!”

He shouted up at her, tears streaming down his face.

‘Every bit of pain Grace suffered, I’ll make you pay it back, a hundred times over.”

Only then did Lila realize, he knew everything.

She screamed for forgiveness, begged through her tears.

But the only thing that answered her was the icy wind and the scent of blood in the air.

A foul, metallic stench rose from beneath her, and a stream of liquid trickled down the side of the drop tower.

Lila was utterly terrified.

Alexander just watched her coldly, his expression void of emotion.

He didn’t move until she went completely still.

When the ride finally came to a stop, her eyes were wide open, frozen in terror. She had been scared to death.

Her fingers were still gripping the handle so tightly that every nall had split and cracked.

Alexander stared at her lifeless body, then dropped to his knees, clutching his head as he broke down in sobs

“Grace… I know I was wrong. Please… come back. Please…

The only reply was the horrified screams of the onlookers.

Days later, he built me a tombstone.

Our baby’s body had long been lost, so he buried the tiny half-knit sock beside me.
