Chapter 365
“Exactly. The Hargreaves family… Who would have thought they were also among the masterminds?” said Hamish. His expression gradually darkened.
Because he and Ashton both recalled that Briar and Javier of the Hargreaves family were once engaged.
Then, the Hargreaves family pretended that nothing had happened and planned to proceed with the marriage contract with Briar.
If Javier, that bastard, hadn’t later fallen for Beatrice and if Briar had been forced to marry into the Hargreaves family, Briar’s death would have been a replica of her mother’s, leaving no trace of suspicion.
Hamish sneaked a look at Ashton’s expression and, as expected, saw murderous intent practically overflowing from Ashton’s cold eyes.
The Hargreaves family deserved to die!
They not only provoked Briar, the formidable, but also completely and irrevocably offended Ashton.
There was nothing more to say. Just wait for the Hargreaves family to be ruined.
Briar was true to her word. She said she wouldn’t kill the three mercenaries, and she didn’t.
She turned and sat back on the sofa. Her eyes were half–closed, pondering something.
The three mercenaries thought they were off the hook. As Brandon led them away, they even tearfully thanked Briar and Louie.
Louie watched as Brandon and his men dragged the three away like dead dogs. A smile played on his lips as he looked at them as if they were complete idiots.
It seemed they hadn’t taken on any truly life–threatening missions since leaving the DDC Vanguard Mercenary Special Operations Base. They had never experienced the threat of death, which explained why they were so quick to believe someone’s words.
Briar said she wouldn’t kill them, but that didn’t mean no one else would.
Especially Ashton, who sat beside Briar speaking softly to her, yet his expression remained grim….
Taken away by Brandon and his men, those three probably wouldn’t even make it out of the club.
Louie then looked toward Hamish, who was sitting to the side with a faint smile and a glass of wine. A cold glint that could not be ignored flickered in his eyes.
“Anyone who can associate with Ashton is certainly no saint. This club… It isn’t as simple as it seems, is it?‘ thought Louie.
Hamish suddenly turned his head and raised his glass to Louie from across the room. Louie returned the gesture with a friendly smile.
As expected, Hamish was as sharp as Ashton and Briar.
Louie’s internal assessment of Hamish’s threat level rose another notch. He now considered Hamish to be on the same level as Ashton and Briar.
A knock came at the door of the private room. The manager stood respectfully at the entrance and said, “Boss, I’m here to deliver the money”
The payouts for tonight’s match were ready. Ashton had always spoiled Briar rotten. Even though he knew she had an ulterior motive for competing, he still bet several million dollars on her to win.
The results proved it: Briar will always be Briar.
She won the match, and Ashton’s several million dollars were multiplied many times over.
It was a small sum to Ashton. He asked Briar if she wanted the money, but she didn’t, so he gave it directly to Hamish. It served as compensation for the havoc they had caused that night.
Hamish didn’t stand on ceremony and nodded for the manager to take the money.
His club might have been small and always packed, but the nightly revenue didn’t always cover the expenses.
Since Ashton was offering the money, Hamish accepted it with a clear conscience.
The manager came and went. The check he was holding had made its rounds, only to end up back in his hand.

It was unclear what the person on the other end of the line had said, but Jannik’s face turned pale all of a sudden.
After a long moment, he put his phone down and sank back into his chair, completely defeated. “The Hargreaves family is in trouble,” he muttered.
