Chapter 264 Her Hidden Ace

“You’re going after the entire Hawthorne family this time. You hate them all,” Lucas said.

Aurelia let out a cold laugh. “I don’t even know what to say to you. Back when you used to hang around with Dominic and the others, I thought you were the dumbest one in the group.”

“That’s a bit harsh,” Lucas muttered.

What did she mean he was the dumbest?

Aurelia laughed softly. “But now I see your eyes are actually pretty sharp.’

Dominic still hadn’t figured it out, but Lucas saw so clearly. Even Eleanor had gotten smart this time and finally realized Aurelia wasn’t just going after Dominic-she was going after the entire Hawthorne family, and even Eleanor herself.

Lydia probably still thought this was all about Aurelia’s feelings for Dominic.

Feelings? If this were really about feelings, would she go this far?

Feelings meant nothing.

her mother, what did her past relationship with Dominic even matter?

“So you want me to divorce Dominic?” Aurelia looked at Lucas with a faint smile on her face.

“Dominic wants the divorce,” Lucas said.

He didn’t know all the details about what had happened between them, but he was just passing along what Dominic had asked him to say. Anyone could see that both of them were miserable in this marriage. Aurelia had been pretty torn up about it before, too.

But compared to back then, she seemed a lot more relaxed

now.

That made sense, he supposed. When someone wasn’t

desperately trying to hold onto a relationship-when it wasn’t about love anymore-they could breathe easier. Right now, in the entire Hawthorne family, Aurelia was the only one who seemed to have any peace.

Aurelia let out a sneer. “He wants the divorce so he can move on with his life and find some wife Eleanor actually approves of. Then the Hawthornes can be one big happy family again, right? Everyone gets their perfect ending.”

Lucas didn’t say anything for a moment. Then he asked, “Does it make you feel better, dragging this out like this?”

“Better? I feel great,” Aurelia said. “As long as they’re all miserable, I’m perfectly content.”

Lucas nodded slowly. “Then I won’t try to talk you out of it.”

Dominic had practically ordered him to convince Aurelia to agree to the divorce. He had even promised him five million if he succeeded. But Lucas wasn’t the type to accept just any money, and besides, he wasn’t hurting for cash.

He’d only come today to go through the motions anyway.

Aurelia raised an eyebrow. “You’re not going to try and talk me

out of it?”

Lucas shook his head. “As long as you’re happy. Besides, you’ve been through hell and back. You deserve to do whatever makes you feel better.”

More than that, he knew she was carrying around a hatred that no one else could see.

There was no way he could talk her out of anything. Honestly, Dominic asking him to try was pointless because Lucas had never planned on actually doing it.

through her time with the Hawthorne family, and he’d seen Dominic turn a blind eye to everything they did to her.

Lucas had tried to talk sense into Dominic back then, but

Dominic wouldn’t listen.

When Aurelia had been dealing with all that conflict with the Hawthornes, Lucas had warned Dominic, but Dominic just insisted that Aurelia could handle it herself, so he played dumb and stayed out of it.

Now Aurelia was handling it with a heavy hand, and suddenly Dominic wanted Lucas to step in and convince her to back off. How the hell was he supposed to do that?

As far as Lucas was concerned, Dominic had created this mess himself with his arrogance.

He’d assumed she could handle things on her own back then, so now he had to accept the way she was handling them now.

“Hey, I’ve got a photo I want you to look at,” Lucas said, pulling out his phone and holding it up for her to see.

Aurelia glanced at the screen, and then her eyes snapped up to meet his. Her brow furrowed sharply.

When she spoke again, her tone had gone cold. “Where did you

find this photo?”

“On James’ adventure account,” Lucas replied.

James Garth was a renowned medical professor who enjoyed mountain climbing and exploring remote areas.

He regularly posted meaningful photos to his public account. Since he’d built connections with numerous high-profile individuals, his feed was filled with pictures featuring various celebrities.

Lucas had stumbled across this particular photo a few days ago while scrolling through James’ public account.

Aurelia raised an eyebrow. “You’re still scrolling through your phone?”

“When work gets exhausting, I scroll through my phone to unwind. I love watching travel vloggers-something about their adventures just helps me relax.”

James dealt with the constant pressure of the medical field by going hiking whenever he could. His account had over ten million followers.

Aurelia stared at Lucas and didn’t say anything.

Lucas shifted under her gaze. “Don’t look at me like that. I didn’t tell Dominic.”

weeks now. The child needed James to examine him, but no one could locate the doctor. James had retired, and unless you had a close personal connection with him, he rarely made exceptions anymore.

But here was Aurelia in a photo with James. It meant she had some kind of relationship with him—and not a casual one either.

Then there was Sebastian standing on James’ other side in the picture. The two of them looked so similar in that photo.

“So you’re showing me this picture because you want to know what my relationship with James is?” Aurelia asked.
