Chapter 6 Crazy?-1
Just as he took a step toward Aurelia, his foot suddenly felt like it weighed a ton.
He looked down and saw Lauren—who had been crying just moments ago—had fallen out of her wheelchair onto the floor,
unconscious!
Panic spread through the crowd. “Mrs. Hawthorne! Oh my god, there’s so much blood…”
Dominic’s steps toward Aurelia felt heavy, like his feet were stuck in mud.
As soon as they put Aurelia on the stretcher, her vision started to fade.
Through the blur, she caught sight of Dominic holding Lauren in his arms.
Then, everything went completely black.
******
When Aurelia woke up, it was already the next morning.
Chloe had been sitting by her side the whole time. As soon as she saw her stir, she let out a relieved sigh. “Thank god, youge3
finally awake You scared the hell out of me.”

Aurelia gave a small twitch of her lips, but no words came out.
Chloe quickly handed her some water. “Dominic came by earlier. Stayed for about ten minutes.”
Aurelia blinked, caught off guard.
Ten minutes?
The mention of that number made her heart sink even more. “He told you to tell me not to sue Lauren, didn’t he?”
Chloe’s eyes widened. “Wait, you heard that?”
It was true–Dominic had asked her to tell Aurelia not to sue
Lauren.
That jerk! Aurelia hasn’t even woken up yet, and he’s already defending Lauren!
Aurelia glanced down at the IV in her arm. “No, I just guessed. It was pretty obvious.”
His behavior toward Lauren over the last six months said it all.
And last night, when she even mentioned suing Lauren, he didn’t just try to stop her–he completely lost it.
Chloe scowled. “Ugh, don’t even bring him up. Here, have 2/5

soune porridge.”
She had seen how close they used to be, but now, just hearing his name made her blood boil.
“You lost so much blood last night…”
Chloe’s voice caught as she said it.
But when Dominic came by earlier, he didn’t seem particularly worried. He probably thought Aurelia was just dealing with a simple cold.
He was so focused on Lauren, yet completely oblivious to Aurelia’s condition.
Aurelia’s voice was icy. “And he could still leave before I woke up. Ha.”
Chloe quickly responded, “Forget about him. If you want a divorce, I’m all for it!”
So what if the Hawthorne family was the most prominent in New York?
In the end, it didn’t matter to Aurelia.
Chloe continued, “Lauren reopened her wound when she fell.
She’d go that far just to win Dominic over. Why didn’t she just 345 fall to her death?”

Chloe had seen everything last night.
When Dominic saw Aurelia faint, he’d started to move toward her, but then Lauren collapsed too.
The timing was too perfect to be a coincidence. Chloe was certain Lauren had done it on purpose.
To steal a man, she was literally willing to risk her life.
******
Aurelia had hemorrhaged severely last night, and now she’d have to stay in the hospital for a week.
After Chloe helped her finish the porridge, she said, “I’m going to run home and grab you some clothes. Be good, okay?”
“Okay.” Aurelia barely had the energy to respond.
She felt drained–probably from all the blood loss—and still a little dizzy.
As soon as Chloe left, Aurelia closed her eyes, hoping to get
some rest.
But just as she was about to drift off, the door to her hospital room opened, followed by the sound of wheelchair wheels rolling across the floor.

Aurelia reluctantly opened her eyes.
There, in the doorway, was Lauren.
Lauren tilted her head slightly, and the person pushing her wheelchair nodded. “Ms. Drake, I’ll be right outside.”
Lauren gave a soft hum in response.
The servant pushed her inside and then quietly left, closing the door behind them.
Lauren looked at Aurelia with a smile. “How are you feeling? I just talked to your doctor. He said you hemorrhaged badly last night. You must be feeling pretty weak right now, huh?”
Her voice was sweet, but there was an undeniable smugness underneath, as if she was savoring Aurelia’s pain.
Aurelia didn’t answer, her eyes just narrowing into a cold stare.

Lauren’s smile grew even wider, almost daring Aurelia to snap. “So, do you still want to stay with Dominic?”
Aurelia’s eyes locked onto Lauren’s, and her voice was low but steady. “When you pushed me… that was on purpose, wasn’t it?”
In that moment, Aurelia was almost sure of it.
Whether it had been two years ago or just yesterday, Lauren had done it intentionally.
Lauren clasped her hands together, her smile dropping as she deliberately avoided answering the question.
Her voice hardened, growing more commanding. “Divorce Dominic. Name your price.”
Aurelia glared at her, unimpressed.
This was the “perfect” daughter–in–law the Hawthorne family adored–kind, gentle, proper, always so sweet and understanding.
So unbelievably perfect…
Aurelia let out a cold laugh. “You’ve been faking depression 9:43 this whole time. Does Dominic even know how you really feel

about him?”
“That’s none of your business,” Lauren responded coolly.
Probably because of Aurelia’s background, growing up in an orphanage, Lauren barely bothered to hide her disdain.
Aurelia pressed on. “Yesterday aside, why did you target me two years ago?”
Two years ago, Adrian was still alive.
Had she already been after Dominic back then?
Lauren looked at Aurelia and lowered her gaze slightly. “That’s also none of your business.”
The response was enough to confirm it.
Whether it was yesterday or two years ago, Lauren had acted deliberately.
Even when Adrian was alive, she had already set her sights on
Dominic.
Lauren continued, her voice dripping with contempt.
“Aurelia, stop being so upset. Someone with your background never should have entered the Hawthorne family in the first

The words “someone with your background” were laced with mockery, as though Aurelia was nothing but an ant beneath her feet.
Now, Lauren could do whatever she wanted to Aurelia, and there was nothing Aurelia could do about it.
Faced with Lauren’s arrogance, Aurelia let out another cold laugh. “Did Dominic tell you?”
Lauren raised an eyebrow. “Tell me what?”
“I’m taking back the exclusive rights to the Maplecrest project.”
At the mention of Maplecrest, Lauren’s expression froze for a split second.
But then she quickly laughed dismissively. “Taking it back? How? With your so–called legal weapons?”
So arrogant. Truly arrogant.
Aurelia’s eyes turned ice–cold as she stared at Lauren.
Lauren continued, “With your background, even if I wanted you dead, no one would ever know.”
She paused, then added, “So don’t start pulling any pointless tricks. They won’t work on me–and making me angry would be 3/7

really bad for you.”
Her words were ice–cold, and her gaze was just as dangerous.
“Divorce Dominic and leave New York. Don’t ever come back.
That’s the only kindness you’re getting from me.”
After dropping that threat, Lauren turned her wheelchair and headed for the door.
Aurelia’s eyes narrowed. “This is the first time I’ve seen such an arrogant mistress.”
Most mistresses stayed quiet, kept their heads down.
But Lauren? Lauren was fearless–probably because she had a powerful mother behind her.
Lauren’s wheelchair came to a sudden stop. She turned around, her smile now sharp and predatory.
“Mistress? Who in New York even knows you’re Mrs. Hawthorne?”
The words were dripping with mockery.
Aurelia thought the same thing–mockery at its purest form.
Just as Lauren was about to say more, the servant outside 4/7
spoke through the door.

“Mrs. Hawthorne, Mr. Hawthorne is here.”
Lauren flicked a glance at Aurelia.
In an instant, she switched masks–rolling her wheelchair to
the bedside.
As the door opened, she even reached out and gently held
Aurelia’s hand.
“Aurelia, I know how badly you want a baby,” she said softly.
“But phantom pregnancies can make you think you’re pregnant. If you’d like, I can have my babies spend more time with you, okay?”
The Lauren who had been vicious and arrogant just moments ago was now the picture of tenderness.
Aurelia’s eyes narrowed.
Lauren went on, “If you really want to be a mother, I can have the babies call you ‘Mommy‘ too.”
Steal Dominic and offer the children to call her “Mommy“?
Lauren really knew how to twist the knife.
Aurelia didn’t bother being polite. She yanked her hand back 5/7

and raised it–then slapped Lauren hard across the face.
Slap!
The crisp sound echoed, followed by Lauren’s scream. “Ah!”
Dominic appeared in the doorway just in time to see it, and his face immediately darkened.
Lauren never imagined Aurelia would actually slap her.
Anger burned through her, but the moment she saw Dominic, she forcibly smoothed it down. Her voice trembled pitifully. “Aurelia, what are you doing? I—”
Slap! Slap!
Before she could finish, Aurelia delivered two more vicious
slaps.
She didn’t hold back.
After the third hit, Lauren’s ears were ringing.
Dominic’s blood pressure spiked. “Aurelia, what the hell are you doing?”
Lauren covered her face, tears gathering as she looked at Dominic. “Dominic…”

Dominic stepped forward and grabbed Aurelia’s wrist mid–air as she lifted her hand again. “Are you crazy?”
Aurelia tore her hand out of his grip. “Crazy? This is just the beginning.”
With that, she swung her other hand and slapped Dominic across the face–then backhanded Lauren again.
The entire hospital room erupted with tension.
