Dr. Lawson struck up a conversation with Isabel, using the excuse of checking on Julian's wound.
"Dr. Lawson, you don't really have to use me as an excuse," Julian laughed. "You repaired her right hand; she'll naturally talk to you."
"She enjoys discussing these topics."
Dr. Lawson looked a little flustered. "No, I was certain I should check on you as well. Your wound has reopened several times, and I wanted to make sure there was no risk of infection. Ms. Hayes's x-1 has some restorative properties, but it doesn't treat external injuries."
Julian smiled and didn't interrupt them again.
Coincidentally, Isabel also wanted to ask about Oliver's condition.
"With your x-1, how could there be any problems? He's sure to recover."
Isabel offered a polite smile. "It's not that amazing."
Dr. Lawson's gaze fell on her right hand. There were still faint scars on the back of it. Because her skin was so fair, they were quite noticeable.
"Can't your x-1 repair your own injuries?"
"Didn't you just say it can't repair external wounds?"
"That's not what I meant," Dr. Lawson clarified. "I was asking about the internal damage to your right hand. Although I performed the surgery, the tendons and bones were damaged. Can the nerves be repaired?"
"No, it only repairs cells."
"What about the previous y-series?"
"The restorative properties of the y-series are targeted; it doesn't work on everything," Isabel explained. "However, it was effective for the lung problems I developed from the fire, though I haven't fully recovered yet."
Dr. Lawson rubbed his hands together, his cheeks flushing in the warm room. He was visibly excited. "If it's convenient for you, I would love to learn more from you."
"Someone in my family also has lung issues. If it's possible... I'd like to..."
"With Mr. Reed's injury, he'll need at least half a month to recover."
At this, Julian had to speak up. "Not necessarily. If she can get her divorce today, we'll be leaving tonight."
Dr. Lawson was taken aback but didn't press further. "Oh, I see..."
Isabel reviewed the report. It didn't seem to be a major issue. She said, "I don't have the upgraded y-2 with me..."
She had just sent Edmund back to the Fiorhaven Principality, so she couldn't ask him to prepare it.
She thought for a moment. "Alright, how about this... I..."
Before she could finish, the door to the room was pushed open.
When she saw who it was, her gaze instantly turned cold.
