No lawyer in Westbridge would have dared to take this case.
So, the lawyer calling him must have been hired by either Julian or Kate Caldwell.
Edmund's status was unique, but any lawyer he could find wouldn't be able to handle a local case like this.
"I understand."
With that, he hung up.
The lawyer on the other end was stunned.
He was being that agreeable?
"How did it go?" Isabel asked quickly, seeing the look on Mr. Monroe's face.
"He agreed," Mr. Monroe said, looking a bit surprised himself. He had prepared a whole list of arguments that were now unnecessary.
Isabel didn't overthink it. "Even if he agreed, we can't let our guard down. He's full of tricks."
"Rest assured, Ms. Hayes," Mr. Monroe said. "If the situation is as you've described, getting the divorce should be straightforward."
Isabel's biggest fear was Adrian pulling some kind of stunt.
She asked, "What if Oliver insists on staying with me, and I refuse?"
"If the child is adamant about staying with you, we would advise you to agree," Mr. Monroe explained. "A six or seven-year-old has the right to state their preference. However, you can also refuse on the grounds that your work makes it impossible for you to provide adequate care. Your press conference is common knowledge, so people are aware of the nature of your job."
"But you shouldn't refuse outright. You could say that you'll see him on weekends or when you have free time. That might comfort the child. If he understands your position and changes his mind to choose his father, that would be the best outcome for you."
"I understand," Isabel said. "Thank you for your help tomorrow."
"It's my job." Mr. Monroe left the room. "I'll come pick you up tomorrow morning."
After seeing Mr. Monroe out, Isabel turned to Julian. "Why don't you go back to Aurelia City first? With Evelyn. Don't both of your houses need to be renovated?"
"Our house needs to be rebuilt," Julian corrected.
"Exactly. Rebuilding takes a lot of time. And since you need to rest anyway, you can supervise the construction."
Julian smiled. "I can't tell if you're actually concerned about me or just trying to get rid of me."
She was taken back to that same laboratory.
This time, it took longer. She was surrounded by researchers asking questions.
By the time she left, it was already pitch black outside.
Evelyn had been calling her nonstop.
"Oh my god, you finally answered your phone."
"You know I don't take my phone into the lab."
"I know, I know," Evelyn sighed. "I didn't want to bother you, but someone's getting restless."
"I'm on my way back now," Isabel said.
Besides, he knew Kate Caldwell would have people protecting her. What was there to worry about?
When Isabel returned to the hospital, she first went to deliver the medicine to Dr. Lawson.
