How could he possibly say something like that to her face?
Even over text, a guy like Adrian would never be able to type out the words 'I love you.'
His way of showing he cared was evident in how he treated Selena. Even when he was using her, he put real effort into it.
As for what he'd be like in love?
She had no idea.
But she was sure of one thing: he was a man of action, not words.
So he would never say it.
Isabel sent another message: [I'm already at the courthouse. Come over if you have the guts.]
Adrian stared at the messages she'd sent, his brow furrowing deeper.
After a moment's hesitation, he typed back: [If you don't want a divorce, you can just say so. No need to be so indirect. I'm willing to let go of what happened before.]
The message nearly made Isabel explode. She showed it to Evelyn. "What did I tell you?"
Evelyn was at a loss for words and could only give her a thumbs-up.
Unbelievable.
Isabel called him directly. If he was replying to texts, the phone had to be in his hand.
Adrian had been expecting more messages.
He knew what he'd sent was infuriating.
Given Isabel's current temper, he expected her to blow up and bombard him with angry texts.
"How can you prove we haven't?" Adrian finally spoke. "It's verifiable that I have work overseas. During those years abroad, aside from the issue with Selena, I was working most of the time. I was working to provide for my wife and child. A judge can't just grant a divorce simply because a couple isn't intimate, can they?"
"Besides, Isabel, if you're that desperate, I can satisfy that need for you. That isn't grounds for divorce."
"So you really don't want to get divorced."
He didn't answer.
Isabel let out a cold laugh. "The great Mr. Blackwell, of the Blackwell family, acting like a coward. You agreed to come to the courthouse today but don't have the guts to show your face. It'll be a laughingstock if this gets out."
Adrian's jaw tightened. "After all that, isn't it just because you've fallen for someone else that you want a divorce?"
"That's right. I'm in love with Julian, and I want to divorce you and marry him," Isabel retorted, throwing all caution to the wind. "If Mr. Blackwell refuses to grant a divorce, I don't mind making the story of how I cheated on you the talk of the town."
Adrian's head throbbed with anger. His voice dropped. "You can try."
