Chapter 107
“Why do you keep showing up in places where you’re clearly not welcome, Cassidy?”
The mockery in the voice was unmistakable as Rima Knowles stepped forward, deliberately blocking Cassie’s path to the elevator.
Cassie paused, her gaze shifting calmly from Rima to Mirriam, who stood beside her with the same unmistakable hostility.
“Well,” Cassie replied evenly, her tone polite but cool, “I’m here to visit my husband. Not to be welcomed by you, Madame Rima.”
Mirriam let out a short, humorless laugh.
“Then you’re an eyesore,” she said bluntly. “You can wait for your husband at home–like what good wives usually do.”
Cassie tilted her head slightly, as if considering the remark. Then her brows furrowed in feigned confusion.
“That’s interesting,” she murmured. “Because I was actually wondering why the two of you are wandering around the company … when you’re supposed to be in your offices. You know–doing the jobs the company pays you for.”
A brief silence followed.
Then Cassie’s eyes widened slightly, as if something had just occurred to her.
“Oh. Right,” she said lightly. “I almost forgot. Madame Rima was suspended pending investigation for anomalous financial transactions.”
Her lips curved into a small, polite smile.
“And your dear husband has already been replaced by CEO Pierce.”
The words landed with quiet precision.
Cassie took a small step forward, her voice still calm–but now edged with unmistakable authority.
“If we think about it carefully,” she continued, “following your suspension, you should actually be at home, only coming to the company if the investigation committee formally requests your presence.”
Her gaze shifted to Mirriam after a brief glance at her wristwatch.
“And as for you, Miss Mirriam Knowles… it’s still office hours.”
She held Mirriam’s eyes steadily.
“Is the Human Resources Department currently so idle that its director can afford to spend time in hallway confrontations? Or are there no pending matters that require your full attention?”
The elevator doors opened behind Cassie with a soft chime. But she didn’t move yet. She simply stood there–calm, composed, and unshaken.
“You-!”
Mirriam’s eyes flashed with fury as she stepped forward, her movements sharp and aggressive, closing the distance between them as if sheer force of will could drive Cassie back.
But Cassie didn’t move.
She stood exactly where she was, her posture relaxed, her expression composed.
“You really think you have the right to be arrogant, Cassidy?” Mirriam demanded, her voice tight with anger.

Rima placed a hand lightly on her daughter’s arm, though her own expression was no less hostile. Her lips curved into a cold. disdainful sneer.
“Whatever is happening right now,” Rima said smoothly, “we are still the Knowles family. This company was built by us. It belongs to us.”
Her eyes swept over Cassie from head to toe, filled with contempt.
“We don’t need to beg to be recognized as Knowles,” she continued.
“But you? No matter what you do, you’ll always be nothing more than a pitiful woman chasing after scraps of attention.”
A slow, sinister smile settled on her face.
“Someone who married her way into relevance.”
For a brief moment, the air between them turned razor–sharp.
Then–Cassie smiled.
Not offended. Not defensive.
Sweetly. Calmly.
“Then you might want to start preparing yourselves,” she said gently. “Because the Knowles name is about to disappear from every corner of this company.”
The softness of her tone made the words even more chilling.
Mirriam stared at her for a second–then suddenly laughed.
“Hah! You’re unbelievable,” she said, shaking her head in open amusement. “Who do you think you are, Cassidy?”
Her eyes gleamed with ridicule.
“Do you really believe you have that kind of influence over CEO Wallace? Over CEO Pierce?” She let out another short laugh.
“You’re dreaming.”
Cassie didn’t argue. She only looked at them steadily, unbothered.
They stood locked in a silent duel, tension stretching thin between them–until the elevator doors slid open with a soft chime.
A familiar figure stepped out.
The moment Rima saw the tall, imposing man with his cold, unreadable expression, her confidence wavered.
“C–CEO Pierce…” Anxiety crept into her voice despite her effort to sound composed.
Beside her, Mirriam subtly straightened her posture, smoothing her hair and adjusting her blazer as if a few quick touches could somehow improve her presence in front of him.
Ashton’s gaze swept over them briefly before settling on Rima–sharp, assessing, and utterly devoid of warmth.
“Has the committee already requested your presence, Madame Knowles?” he asked, his tone calm but firm, eyes fixed on her as though weighing every word she might say.
“Ah… not yet, CEO Pierce,” Rima replied quickly, forcing a polite smile. “I’m just here to visit Mirriam.”
A brief pause followed.
“I was not informed that personal visitations during office hours are permitted,” Ashton said evenly. “The coffee break has

already ended.”
Then his gaze shifted–slowly, deliberately–to Mirriam.
“So, Miss Knowles… does this mean you intend to entertain your mother while you are being paid to work?”
The question landed like a blow.
Mirriam blinked, caught completely off guard. The color drained from her face.
“Ashton…” she began instinctively, using the familiar tone she had always used with him.
But the moment she met his eyes, her voice faltered. There was no familiarity there. No indulgence. No patience. Only distance. And authority.
“Ah… CEO Pierce,” she corrected herself quickly, forcing a tight smile. “My mother won’t disturb my work.”
A faint pause.
“That is not what I have discovered, Miss Knowles.”
Without raising his voice, Ashton handed her a sealed envelope.
The weight of it suddenly felt far heavier than paper.
“There have been several recorded instances,” he continued calmly, almost conversationally, “when you left your office during working hours to go shopping with your mother.”
Mirriam’s fingers trembled slightly as she opened the envelope.
“You have also taken extended lunch breaks lasting several hours,” Ashton went on, his tone steady and precise.
