Bound By A Broken Night novel Chapter 11

Chapter 11

Wife?

Zabrina Wallace narrowed her eyes as her gaze shifted back and forth between her son and the visibly pregnant woman standing beside him. Yet it was the gentle curve of the baby bump that held her attention the longestdisbelief written plainly across her face.

It’sa long story, Mom,Zandrie said casually. What matters is that I’ve decided to settle down. Cassie and I will be welcoming our little prince very soon.

As he spoke, he gave Cassidy’s handstill laced with his a gentle squeeze. Casual to an outsider’s eye. Possessive enough to convince anyone watching.

Zabrina blinked, still staring. We only met a few days ago,she murmured. Why didn’t you tell me you were getting married sosoon?

I was going to,Zandrie replied smoothly. But you stormed off in anger, remember?

He lifted a brow, reminding her pointedly of her dramatic exit from the café.

Zabrina turned to him, studied his face for a long moment and then sighed.

That’s true, she admitted at last, nodding slowly. I did get angry that day.

Cassidy observed the exchange in silence, her posture composed, her expression carefully neutral. She allowed Zandrie to take the lead, instinctively sensing that convincing his mother wouldn’t be difficult. For all her sharp tongue and dramatic flair, Zabrina Wallace was surprisingly unsuspecting.

But is this really true?Zabrina suddenly asked, turning toward Cassidy. Doubt flickered across

her face.

Do you know about my son’speculiar habits? Aren’t you afraid he’s just toying with you?

Cassidy inhaled softly before answering.

We’re already married, Madame, she said gently. No matter what kind of past Zandrie has, I accepted it long ago.

She rubbed her stomach absentmindedly, her gaze flicking briefly to Zandrietender, trusting, perfectly convincing.

He promised me he would focus on our family, she continued. That he would turn his back on his vices and prioritize our future.

Cassidy bit the inside of her cheek, forcing herself to maintain the lie without faltering.

Cassie is perfect for me, Mom,Zandrie added quickly, giving her hand another reassuring squeezefully aware of her discomfort. She understands me.

Zabrina stared at him for a moment longer before letting out a quiet sigh. Then she turned back to

Cassidy, her expression softening.

Cassidy, was it?she asked gently.

Yes, Madame,Cassidy replied with a polite smile. But everyone calls me Cassie.

Well then, Cassie,Zabrina said warmly, waving away the formality, you might as well call me Mom.

She lifted a brow, her tone turning playful as her gaze drifted once more to Cassidy’s stomach. After all, you’re married to this foolish son of mine, she said lightly, and already carrying the next heir of the Wallace family.

The disbelief in her voice faded, replaced by curiosity, quiet acceptanceand a budding hint of delight.

My prayers have finally been answered,Zabrina murmured as she reached for Cassidy’s hand, clasping it warmly.

My son has always been far too playful for his own good, she went on. Please be patient with him, Cassie. And if he ever does anything to displease you tell Mom. I’ll deal with this jerk myself.

She turned sharply toward Zandrie and shot him a glare.

Cassie is very tolerant,Zandrie said calmly. She’s embraced my shortcomingseven my ugly past.

His gaze locked onto Cassidy’s, lingering just a second too long. The meaning beneath his words was meant for her alone.

Even so,Zabrina cut in sharply, take care of her. You’re lucky you found someone willing to accept your sorry ass.

She waved a hand dismissively. Apologies for my language. My son requires scolding.

She patted Cassidy’s hand again, affectionate and reassuring.

Now that you’re married,Zabrina continued, turning back to Zandrie, be responsible. Focus on your family. Improve your life. I’ll reinstate your allowance from your fatherand I’ll add more.

Despite her stern tone, the indulgence beneath it was unmistakable.

Zandrie’s grin widened instantly. He shot Cassidy a quick, smug winkalready enjoying how easily everything was falling into place.
