Chapter 110
“You really are a fool, Ashton Pierce,” Mirriam said with a hollow chuckle, her eyes glistening with a mixture of fury and wounded pride.
“You were the one who drove Cassidy away.”
Her laughter held no humor–only bitterness sharpened by years of resentment.
“And you’re an even bigger fool for choosing her over me.”
Her gaze hardened, locking onto him with naked hostility.
Then, without warning, she moved.
The shift was so sudden that no one reacted in time.
Her attention snapped from Ashton to Cassidy–who was still standing there, stunned and disoriented by the revelations, her mind struggling to process everything that had just been said.
Mirriam lunged.
Her hands shoved forward with force.
Cassidy barely had time to register the movement before the impact hit her shoulders, her balance breaking as the world tilted backward.
“Cassie!”
Ashton’s voice cut through the chaos–sharp, urgent, and stripped of its usual control.
The next moment, before she could fall, strong arms caught her.
Firm. Steady.
One arm braced securely around her back while the other anchored her against a solid chest, pulling her safely away from the momentum of the push.
For a brief second, everything else faded–the gasps, the startled murmurs, Rima’s shocked call, the hurried footsteps of staff rushing forward.
All Cassidy could hear was the echo of his voice and the strength of the hold around her.
The moment Cassidy felt steady on her feet, she pulled away.
The warmth of Ashton’s arms, the firmness of his hold—under different circumstances, it might have felt like protection.
But after everything she had just hear. Being that close to him was overwhelming.
Her heart pounded for reasons she didn’t want to delve into.
So the instant she regained her balance, she stepped back quickly–almost abruptly–like someone who had been burned by the contact.
Ashton’s hands fell away without resistance. He didn’t try to stop her.
For a brief second, something unreadable flickered across his face, as if he, too, was uncertain how to approach her now.
And there were more urgent matters at hand.
“You are the curse of the Knowles family!” Mirriam’s voice rose again, shrill with fury when she saw Cassidy standing

“Why did you even come back, Cassidy? You should have disappeared and never returned–tor all I care!” Her finget shot toward Cassidy, trembling with rage.
“Ever since you came back, nothing but misfortune has happened to us!”
“Enough.”
Ashton’s voice cut through the hallway like a blade.
His gaze locked onto Mirriam–cold, final, and devoid of patience.
“Starting this minute,” he said slowly, each word deliberate, “you are not allowed to step inside the Knowles and Greene premises unless formally requested by the committee for official proceedings.”
The weight of his authority pressed heavily into the silence. Then he turned to Rima.
“You as well, Madame Knowles. This company is not your playground where you may come and go at your convenience.” His eyes hardened.
Before either of them could respond, Ashton lifted his gaze toward the group of security personnel who had rushed over after hearing the commotion.
“Effective immediately,” he announced, his voice carrying across the entire floor, “anyone who allows Madame Rima Knowles or Miss Mirriam Knowles entry without authorization will answer to me personally.”
His eyes settled on the head of security.
“I will spare no one.”
“Yes, CEO Pierce,” the guards responded in unison, straightening at once.
Ashton gave a single nod.
“Escort them out.”
Mirriam and Rima stared at him, disbelief etched across their faces as security began to move toward them.
“You can’t do this to us!” Rima snapped, jerking her arm away from the guard who tried to guide her toward the exit.
“You have no right to cast us out of our own domain!”
