Chapter 135
“Thank you, CEO Wallace. have my secretary coordinate my availability,” Ashton said quickly.
Without another word, he strode toward the door, movements swift and purposeful, leaving behind the quiet weight of unfinished business.
The office fell into silence.
For several long minutes, Zandrie remained seated, hands resting lightly on the closed folders. He did not move. He simply leaned back and closed his eyes, allowing the stillness to settle around him.
He felt tranquil.
It had been months since they arrived in Bay City, and everything had unfolded exactly as planned. Every move calculated. Every piece placed carefully.
Everything except Cassie’s heart. The thought made a faint smile tug at his lips.
But the calm did not last. His phone began to ring.
Zandrie let out a quiet groan, irritation flickering across his face. He had not wanted to break the silence so soon. The peace had been rare.
The ringing persisted.
With a resigned sigh, he opened his eyes and straightened in his seat. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone.
His brows furrowed the moment he saw the name flashing on the screen.
Cassie.
He answered immediately.
“Cass…?”
“Drie…”
Her voice.
The moment he heard it, something in his chest tightened. There was no playful lilt, no arrogance, no teasing confidence.
He shot to his feet.
“What happened? Where are you?” he demanded, already striding toward the door, his earlier tranquility gone as if it had never
existed.
“Drie… Mom Zab called…” Cassie’s voice trembled, breathless and unsteady, and the sound alone sent a sharp wave of anxiety through him.
“How is Kai?” he asked immediately. Only one thing could shake Cassie like this.
Only her son.
“Kai fell while playing,” she said quickly, her words rushing over each other.
“They brought him to the hospital for a checkup. He has a bump on his head and a small cut.”
Zandrie exhaled, but the tension in his chest did not ease.
“Where are you? I’m coming to you,” he said, already striding toward the elevator. His foot tapped impatiently against the floor as he waited for the doors to open.

“We’ll call Mum and talk to Kai together.”
He knew how Cassie was whenever something happened to her child. Even the smallest incident could leave her restless, shaken, unable to think straight until she saw Kai with her own eyes.
“I’m on my way to the hospital,” Cassie replied. Her breathing was uneven, as if she were running.
Zandrie frowned, confusion mixing with his concern.
“Hospital? What happened to you?”
“I’m fine, Drie,” she said quickly.
“But I need to get there as soon as possible. If you arrive first, please check on Kai. Make sure he’s okay.”
There was panic in her voice-real panic.
Zandrie slowed for a moment, his confusion deepening.
“What are you talking about, Cass? I’ll call Mom right now and confirm—”
“No,” she cut in, her voice tight, almost pleading.
“Don’t call her,” Cassie said quickly, her voice tight with urgency.
“She needs to focus on Kai right now.” She drew a shaky breath before continuing, almost pleading.
“Just go straight to Bay City Medical Center. Please, Drie. Check on Kai for me. Make sure he’s really okay.”
His steps came to an abrupt halt.
“Bay City Medical Center?” he repeated, the name hitting him like a warning.
“Yes. Mom Zab brought him there. They… they had a small accident at the park,” Cassie explained hurriedly.
“Kai is here in Bay City, Drie,” Cassie said, her voice dropping, urgency laced with fear.
“Mom Zab brought him. I have to get to him before anyone sees him. Bay City is small, Drie.”
The implication settled heavily between them.
“What?” he whispered, disbelief creeping in. His mother hadn’t mentioned anything. Not a word.
And suddenly, he understood the real reason for her panic.1
Cassie had not yet prepared anything, no plan for Kai’s existence to become known.
And now the child was here. In Bay City. 1
A city ruled by the Pierces.
