“Thank you, Mr. Wallace,” she replied playfully.
“But you’re not obligated,” she added, shaking her head lightly.
He smirked. “As you said—this isn’t charity.”
Then, with a wink, he quoted her,
“When people are taken care of, they take care of what belongs to you.”
“Let’s make this partnership fun,” he added with a bright grin.
Cassidy narrowed her eyes at him. “You have a schedule later?”
“Uh…” He scratched the back of his head, grin widening.
She knew that look.
He already had someone reserved for the night. And as his loving wife, she would accompany him- as always. She’d take one suite. He’d take the other room.
They both knew exactly how the night would unfold.
“Fine,” she chuckled, shaking her head.
“Thank you, Cassie,” he said, clasping his hands together like a child who’d gotten his way.
And just like that, their strange, calculated marriage continued–balanced between ambition, convenience, and a partnership neither of them had fully anticipated.
Night settled heavily over the suite.
Cassie sat at the small desk, the glow of her MacBook illuminating her face as her fingers moved steadily across the keyboard.
In the adjoining room, muffled sounds slipped through the wall–Zandrie, once again, busy in a very different way with a woman whose name Cassie neither knew nor cared to ask.
She barely registered it.
Until-
“Ah… shit.”
Her breath hitched as a sharp, searing pain tore through the pit of her belly, radiating outward like
fire.
Cassie froze, one hand flying instinctively to her swollen stomach.
“Oh no…” Her voice dropped to a whisper, dread flooding her veins. “Don’t tell me it’s time…”

Another wave rolled through her, stronger this time, stealing the air from her lungs.
“Everyone’s busy, buddy,” she murmured shakily, forcing a humorless chuckle as she rubbed her belly. “Why now?”
She saved her work with trembling fingers and shut the laptop, the pain coiling mercilessly around her waist. It was bone–deep, relentless–she couldn’t even tell where it began or ended
“You’re such a cockblocker,” she breathed, half–laughing, half–crying as she reached for her phone.
She dialed. No answer.
She tried again. And again. Nothing.
The pain intensified, crushing, unforgiving. Her breaths turned ragged, shallow gasps scraping her throat.
“Please… pick up…” Tears blurred her vision as her legs trembled beneath her.
Another contraction hit.
“Ugh—” She groaned, bending forward, gripping the edge of the desk as she focused on slow inhales and shaky exhales. Her entire body began to shake, an icy chill creeping into her limbs.
Tears spilled freely now.
“Hang on, buddy,” she whimpered, desperation edging her voice.
She tried to stand, but her legs betrayed her. She grabbed the table just in time, her nails scraping painfully against the wood as she slid downward.
“I need help,” she whispered brokenly. “Please… now…”
Her back hit the floor. Her breaths were heavy but shallow, chest rising unevenly as strength drained from her body. Pain carved through her again, harsher than before, and her face twisted in
agony.
“Please…” she sobbed, clutching her belly with trembling hands.
The phone slipped from her grasp as another wave slammed into her.
“Urgh-!”
She curled slightly on the floor, tears soaking into the carpet, fear unlike anything she had ever known clawing its way into her chest.
“Please…” she whispered again, barely audible.
