Bound By A Broken Night novel Chapter 25

Chapter 25

Hello, may I sit here?

I looked up to find a handsome man standing before Kai and me. He was dressed casually yet unmistakably refined- a crisp white polo shirt from a luxury brand, creamcolored slacks to match, and dark brown loafers that completed the effortless elegance. He gestured toward the empty seat beside Kai. The seat Cassie just vacated.

Before I could answer, Kai spoke first.

Yeths, you may, Siw,he said cheerfully, patting the vacant space like a tiny gentleman offering hospitality.

Adorable, the man murmured with a smile as he carefully took his seat.

I’m just waiting for my boarding timeabout ten minutes,he added, glancing at his watch before turning to me. I hate joining the flock of passengers eager to board.

I smiled politely in response, then shifted my attention to Kai, who was carefully eating a cookie from the wide array of snacks in the lounge.

I noticed the man’s gaze follow himlingering longer than casual curiosity.

Kai could shereKai said suddenly, already breaking the cookie in half with great determination.

Hewe,he offered, holding out one half to the man with a bright smile.

Thank you, young man,the man said warmly, accepting it. He studied the cookie in his palm for

a moment before taking a bite.

Kai watched him closely. When the man chewed, Kai’s face lit up.

Yummy?he asked, eyes sparkling.

Mmm. Yummy,the man nodded, smiling.

Kai beamed.

I get you mowe,he volunteered, already about to slide off the couch.

It’s okay. I’m fine with this, the man said gently, stopping him.

Then he turned fully toward Kai.

You are adorable. How old are you?

Two,Kai answered proudly, holding up two fingers.

The man smiled, unable to tear his eyes away. You’re very smart for a twoyearold.

I went to Dithneywand with Mama and Mammo,Kai added, his happiness unmistakable.

Disneyland, the man mused. “That place is paradise for kids like you rides, food, fireworks.

You went to Dithneywand too?Kai asked, brows furrowing.

Tew you wayf to give you kidth,Kai said seriously.

Both of us froze.

My Mama gave my Dada me,Kai continued proudly, pointing to himself. Dada happy.

The man laughed softly. Well, I don’t have a wife. So no one can give me an adorable baby like you.

He reached out and gently wiped a smudge of chocolate from Kai’s cheek. The gesture surprised me, but it’s already too late for me to stop him.

You aww handthsome,Kai assured him with a sympathetic smile. You wiy have wayff

The man chuckled and glanced at me. I could only smile, thoroughly amused and slightly embarrassed by my grandson’s earnest matchmaking.

Well,he said after a quiet sigh, I’m waiting for someone. Someone special.

I’m waiting for my Mama too,Kai said brightly. She iths spethsial.

I’m sure she is,the man replied, patting Kai’s head.

His hand lingered, fingers absentmindedly playing with Kai’s silky hair.

You could be the same age as my child, ifhe murmured, trailing off.

You have a chowd?Kai asked instantly, curiosity lighting his face. It was whispered, and surely not meant for anyone’s ears, but Kai and I heard them.

No,the man said, shaking his head -more as if shaking away a thought than answering the question. I don’t think I have.

But you want a chowd?

Yes,he admitted softly. Especially if they’re as adorable as you.
