She ended the call.

Daniel turned to me. “We need to move you to the safe house permanently.”

“No.”

“You’re being targeted from a building twenty feet away

“I’m not hiding.”

“This isn’t hiding,” he snapped. “This is staying alive.”

I got up from the chair. The office suddenly felt too small.

“We’ll increase surveillance,” I said. “We’ll put guards on every floor. We’ll-”

The intercom buzzed.

Cole’s voice came through, tight and controlled.

“Alpha? Luna? You both need to get to the main building. Now.”

Daniel hit the button. “What happened?”

“One of our guards went missing.”

My chest tightened. “Who?”

“Liam. North perimeter shift.”

Daniel’s expression turned sharp. “When?”

“Thirty minutes ago. He didn’t report back. His tracker is offline.”

I felt it then–the threat pulling tighter around us. Like noose.

Daniel grabbed his jacket. “We’re leaving.”

I followed him out, moving fast, heart pounding.

This wasn’t just Elias watching.

This was Elias taking.

We reached the main building where more guards were already gathered. Cole rushed over.

“We’ve searched the north perimeter. Nothing. No tracks. No scent trail. It’s like he disappeared.”

Daniel growled under his breath.

I asked the question no one wanted to say aloud.

“Do you think Elias has him?”

Cole didn’t speak immediately. Then he nodded.

“We found Liam’s comm device on the ground. Smashed.”

Daniel’s jaw tightened. “Kidnapping is a declaration.”

A cold feeling slid through me.

“This is the first move,” I said quietly.

“No,” Daniel replied. “This is a warning.”

His eyes met mine.

“And the real hit is coming.”

We reached the construction site minutes after Cole’s alert. The place was quiet except for the sound of our team moving around. Floodlights were set up, throwing sharp light over stacks of metal rods and unfinished walls. The smell of blood hung in the air, sharp and wrong.

Two guards waved us toward an open area behind a set of concrete pillars.

“He’s here,” one of them said quietly.

I stepped forward and saw the missing guard lying on a stretcher. He was barely conscious. His clothes were torn, and his skin was scraped and bruised. Someone had dragged him, not carried him. His eyes fluttered when Daniel crouched beside him.

“Stay with me,” Daniel said, voice low and rough.

The guard swallowed hard. “Alpha… I tried to run.”

“I know. You’re safe now,” Daniel said.

The man’s gaze shifted to me. His breathing was shallow uneven.

“He wasn’t… looking for Daniel,” he whispered.

Daniel stiffened beside me.

“Who?” I asked.

The guard’s lips trembled. “He was… looking for her.”

Daniel’s wolf surged so fast it hit me like a physical force. His eyes flashed gold. His jaw clenched, and his breathing changed. The guard saw it too and tensed.

I grabbed Daniel’s arm. “Not here.”

He didn’t move.

“Daniel,” I said again. “Look at me.”

His wolf didn’t want to back down. It pushed through his expression, his posture, the way his fingers curled,

The fear in the air thickened. The guard’s heart monitor beeped faster.

I stepped in front of Daniel, blocking his view of everything else.

“You’re scaring him,” I said quietly.

His focus snapped to me, but his eyes were still glowing

I placed my hand on his chest. “I’m right here. Stay with me.”

He didn’t speak. He just stared, trying to breathe through the shift that wanted to take control. It took a full minute before his eyes dimmed back to normal. His shoulders dropped a fraction.

The guard sagged in relief.

“Get him to the hospital,” I told Cole.

As they lifted the stretcher, the guard looked at me one last time. “He’s close… he’s watching.”

Then he passed out.

The ride to the hospital was quiet. Daniel was silent, staring straight ahead, his hands shaking slightly. He was trying–not to shift, not to break something, not to tear the steering wheel out.

When we reached the hospital wing, nurses moved fast, taking the guard into a critical room. Daniel paced outside the door. His energy filled the hallway. Wolves inside the building sensed it and lowered their heads when they passed.

He was seconds from losing control.

I walked up to him slowly. “You need to breathe.”

He didn’t stop pacing. “He was looking for you.”

“I know.”

“He touched someone under my command to get to you.”

“I know that too.”
