I shoved my way through the crowd.

Daniel grabbed my arm and yanked me back.

“Amy–stop. The fumes-”

“I need to see-”

“You’re not going in there!”

Before I could argue, a security guard ran up, panicked,

“Someone triggered the internal reset. We think someone is inside the server room right now–accessing files.”

My chest tightened.

“A hacker.”

Daniel’s grip tightened..

“No. A thief.”

We both looked at the fire.

He stopped at the curb, eyes hard.

“To separate me from you.”

A low engine rumble cut through the noise.

A sleek black SUV rolled slowly into view, parking just across the street.

The windows were tinted. The exhaust puffed softly. The engine idled like it was waiting.

My wolf froze.

Daniel inhaled, and his eyes went sharp gold.

“Mark.”

“What?”

“His scent,” he growled. “All over that SUV.”

I stared at the vehicle, my pulse steady but cold.

Mark was supposed to be on the run. Broke. Cornered. Desperate.

But that SUV?

It was a message.

Elias wasn’t trying to scare me.

He was showing he could reach me through anyone he touched.

Daniel stepped in front of me, shielding me from the vehicle.

A small red dot appeared on the SUV windshield.

Then the SUV peeled away, disappearing into traffic without ever revealing the driver.

“Daniel.” I said quietly, “he’s not just watching us.”

“He’s closing in.”

He nodded once.

“And I’m not letting him touch you.”

The smoke from the building curled into the sky.

The SUV’s taunting image burned in my mind.

Elias had made his move.

I was already planning mine.

“Say it,” he ordered.

My stomach tightened.

“Elias hit our servers.”

Daniel growled under his breath. It wasn’t loud, but it carried enough heat to make the officer step back.

I hated how right he was.

Daniel stepped closer.

“Underground?”
