Bound To The Broken Alpha
Chapter 356 Consistency
CLARA
“When?”
“Now.”

The meeting took place at a private estate just outside the park boundary. It wasn’t marked, but the land was old. The kind of place that carried authority without signs or guards. I felt it as soon as I crossed onto the property. My wolf lowered instinctively, recognizing a higher chain of command.
Elias met me at the entrance and led me inside without speaking.
The Southern Alpha sat at the head of a long table, posture relaxed, presence heavy. Selene stood near the window, arms crossed, eyes sharp when they landed on me. She didn’t hide her dislike. She never had.
“Clara,” the Alpha said calmly. “Sit.”
I did.
“You went to Amy,” he continued.
“Yes.”
“To apologize.”
“Yes.”
Selene scoffed quietly.
The Alpha lifted a hand, silencing her. “Why?”
I met his gaze. “Because I miscalculated before. Amy isn’t weak. Direct pressure won’t move her.”
“And flattery will?” Selene asked coldly.
“Consistency might,” I replied. “Lowering hostility creates access.”
The Alpha studied me for a long moment. His wolf brushed against mine, testing. I kept mine still.
“Elias believes you can be useful,” he said.
“I am,” I answered. “If allowed to operate without interference.”
Selene’s jaw tightened. “She’s lying.”
“Enough,” the Alpha said. “This isn’t about trust. It’s about outcome.”
He turned back to me. “You will continue what you started. You will observe. You will report only to Elias.”
I nodded. “Understood.”

“And if you fail,” he added, voice calm, “you will lose protection.”
I swallowed. “I understand.”
Selene’s eyes burned into me as I stood to leave. I smiled at her before turning away. Not because I was confident. Because I refused to look small.
Outside, Elias walked with me to the car.
“You handled that well,” he said.
“She hates me.”
“She always will,” he replied. “That makes you effective.”
I paused before getting in. “Amy is smarter than they think.”
“I know,” Elias said. “That’s why this takes time.”
“Mark is getting closer to her,” I said. “She tolerates him now.”
“That’s your opening.”
I nodded once and drove away.
That evening, Mark told me Amy had agreed to another meeting. Professional. Controlled. No warmth.
“She didn’t object when I mentioned you,” he said carefully.
I kept my expression neutral. “That’s progress.”
“It is,” he agreed. “I think she believes you’re trying.”
I was.
Just not in the way he thought.
Over the next week, I adjusted my behavior carefully. No prying questions. No sudden interest. I let Amy set the pace. When I did speak, I kept it limited to acknowledgment and apology. I allowed her to see restraint. Regret.
She didn’t soften, but she stopped bristling.
That mattered.
One afternoon, while Mark stepped out to take a call, Amy looked at me directly.
“You’re quiet lately,” she said.
“I’m listening,” I replied.
She studied me. “That’s new.”

“I didn’t do much listening before,” I said. “It caused damage.”
Her gaze stayed on me for several seconds longer than comfortable. Then she looked away.
“We’ll see,” she said.
That night, Elias called again.
“She’s letting you breathe near her,” he said. “That’s enough for now.”
“For what?” I asked.
“For the next phase.”
My grip tightened on the phone. “Which is?”
“Waiting,” he said calmly. “People reveal more when they think the danger has passed.”
I stared out the window, watching the city lights. Somewhere beyond them, packs shifted, alliances tightened, and power moved quietly.
“I won’t fail,” I said.
“I know,” Elias replied. “You’re too afraid to.”
The call ended.
I didn’t deny it.
Fear kept me sharp. Obsession kept me moving.
And Amy, whether she knew it or not, was slowly opening the door I needed.
The waiting Elias demanded wasn’t passive. It never was.
It meant observing patterns. Tracking reactions. Noting who spoke to Amy when they thought no one was listening.
I paid attention to the guards, assistants, and drivers. Wolves carried information in posture as much as words. A stiffened spine. A lowered gaze. A pause before answering. Those things mattered.
Mark kept trying.
He brought Amy updates she didn’t ask for. Clarifications she already had. Apologies he repeated until they lost shape. I watched him do it with a mix of irritation and calculation. His guilt made him predictable. Predictability was useful.
Amy, on the other hand, stayed controlled. Polite. Distant. She never raised her voice. Never showed anger the way Selene did. But her wolf was always present. Quiet. Watching. That was what made her dangerous.
One evening, after another tense meeting, Mark rubbed his face and said, “She’s different now.”

“She’s always been like this,” I replied. “You just didn’t notice before.”
