Bound To The Broken Alpha

Chapter 475 The Endgame

AMY

I didn’t know the meeting would be different until I walked into the room and saw fewer chairs.

That alone told me enough.

Usually, when they brought me in for discussions, there were many people. Doctors. Observers. Handlers who pretended not to be handlers. Too many voices layered together so no single one carried responsibility. This time, there were only four of them.

Two medical staff. One man I had seen before but never spoken to. And a woman I didn’t recognize at all.

The door closed behind me. No one told me to sit, but there was a chair placed in the center of the room, slightly apart from theirs. I sat anyway. Standing would not change anything.

How are you feeling today?one of the doctors asked.

I’m fine,” I said. It wasn’t a lie. It also wasn’t the truth.

They exchanged looks. The woman I didn’t recognize studied a tablet in front of her, scrolling slowly, as if my answer had already been expected and dismissed.

We’re going to ask you a question, the man said. His voice was calm. Too calm. And we need an honest answer.

I nodded once. I had learned that asking questions back only delayed things.

He leaned forward slightly. If it comes down to itwhich life would you choose?

I frowned. I don’t understand.”

He didn’t repeat the question. He clarified it.

Your life,” he said, evenly, or the children’s.

The room went quiet.

I felt something in my chest tighten, but I kept my face still. I didn’t react the way they might have expected. No gasp. No raised voice. Just silence.

Why would that be a choice?I asked.

No one answered right away.

The woman finally looked up from her tablet. We’re not saying it will happen,” she said. We’re asking you to consider the possibility.

Based on what?I asked.

She didn’t respond.

The doctor who had been checking on me regularly cleared his throat. Your pregnancy isn’t progressing normally. You already know that.

I know it’s fast,I said.

It’s beyond fast,he replied. It’s unstable.”

I looked at him. So fix it.”

There was another pause.

That’s not always possible without tradeoffs,” the man said.

What tradeoffs?I asked.

Again, no answer.

I felt my hands curl into fists on my lap. You’re asking me to choose without telling me why. That’s not a choice. That’s pressure.”

The woman’s expression didn’t change. We need to understand your priorities.

My priorities are surviving,I said. All of us.

The man nodded slowly, like he had expected that answer. That may not be an option.

That’s not acceptable,” I said.

It may not be negotiable,he replied.

I leaned back in the chair. So this is what this is about,” I said. You’re not monitoring me anymore. You’re preparing me.

No one denied it.

Preparing me for what?I asked.

The doctor looked uncomfortable. He opened his mouth, then closed it again.

The woman spoke instead. For decisions that may need to be made quickly,

By who?I asked.

She met my eyes. By you.”

That was when I felt it.

Not fear. Not panic.

Anger.

You don’t get to put that on me without explaining,” I said. My voice was steady, but it took effort to keep

it that way. You don’t get to turn my body into a problem and then ask me to solve it without information.”

We’re not trying to harm you,the man said.

You already are,” I replied.

Silence followed.

I stood up slowly. No one stopped me.

I want a full explanation,I said. Not today. Not tomorrow. Before you ask me anything like that again.

The woman tapped her tablet once. That may not be possible.”

Then stop pretending this is voluntary,I said. Because it isn’t.”

They let me leave after that. No guards grabbed me. No voices were raised. The door opened and closed behind me like nothing had happened.

But everything had changed.

Back in my room, I sat on the edge of the bed and stared at my hands. They were steady. That surprised me more than anything else.

I thought about Daniel. About how hard he was trying to find me. About how much he would hate this place if he knew what they were asking.

I thought about the children. Not as symbols. Not as leverage. As lives that were already pulling resources from me faster than my body wanted to give them.

No one had said I was dying.

But no one had said I wasn’t.

Later that night, the doctor returned alone.

They shouldn’t have asked you that yet,he said quietly.

Yet,” I repeated.

He nodded. There are disagreements.

About what?I asked.
