Chapter 102 Dig Into Megan’s Life Overseas

Hugh said nothing, staring at her in silence, his lips pressed into a hard line.

The longer he stayed quiet, the more panicked Megan became. At a loss, she stammered, her voice trembling, “You know me. I’ve always valued what we had more than my own life. I would never cheapen our love with money.”

Her eyes flickered with unease as she continued, “After your grandpa forced me to leave the country, I was robbed. It was as if they knew I had money on me. They found the check and walked off with it.

“If I really had sixty million dollars, do you think I’d be this miserable now, without even money for medical bills, having to crawl back here and ask for your help?” Megan spoke quickly, almost stumbling over her words in her desperation.

Tears blurred her face as she sobbed harder, “Hugh, I’ve never been the calculating type. I was just a foolish girl back then, terrified and clueless, and it never crossed my mind to hold on to any evidence. I was dumb, pathetic,

Megan tried to follow, desperate to keep explaining, but he shut the door on her without hesitation.

She knew well enough that after Fiona’s outburst, Hugh would be suspicious. Even so, she only gripped the door handle tightly and chose not to get out.

Megan had always known that Hugh was resourceful and ruthless, so she had prepared herself for this. The more he doubted her, the deeper he would dig, and the more guilt and remorse he would feel-until his heart ached for her again.

Standing by the roadside, Hugh watched the black luxury car drive away. Then, he pulled out his phone and made a call. “Jacob, dig into Megan’s life overseas over the past six years. I want every single detail.”
