Hearing that, Hugh lowered his gaze to hide the emotions on his face.

If Bethan were truly content, she wouldn’t be fighting with me like this.

As Hugh and Megan stepped out of the cafe, they unexpectedly crossed paths with Bethan’s parents.

When the four of them locked eyes, Megan calmly slipped her arm through Hugh’s and leaned her head against him. “Hugh, I’m scared.”

“It’s okay. I got you. They won’t do anything to you,” Hugh said as he gently pushed her off him. “Go on home first.”

He then hurried toward Bethan’s parents, reaching out to carry their things. “Vincent, Miranda, let me give you a ride.”

Vincent looked at him with clear displeasure. “No, thanks.” The elderly couple then stood hand in hand, Waiting for the crosswalk light to change.

Just then, a black luxury car slowly pulled up to the curb. Fiona and Gwen stepped out and headed straight toward Bethan’s parents.

Fiona swallowed her pride and spoke gently, “Oh, what a rare chance to run into you, Miranda. Let me give you a ride home.”

Miranda turned to glance at Hugh and Megan, her face cold as she refused. “That won’t be necessary, Mrs. Fiona Cavill.” With that, Miranda and Vincent crossed the street on foot.

Gwen turned back and saw Megan standing beside Hugh. Her jaw tightened with fury. “Mom, Hugh is standing here with that woman right in front of Bethan’s family.”

The moment Megan spotted Fiona, her steps faltered and she instinctively backed away. “Mrs… Mrs. Fiona Cavill.”

Fiona swung without hesitation, the slap landing with a loud snap. Megan cried out and darted into Hugh’s andrace.

Hugh’s face darkened. “Gwen, stop making a scene!”

Hugh tried to guard Megan, yet Gwen pushed ahead, desperate to hold him back. Fiona didn’t utter a word, just kept striking relentlessly. The sharp smacks rang out in succession, making passersby gather around to watch.
