Chapter 139 Don’t Push It, Kid.
Miranda let out a long sigh.
She could tell that Bethan’s feelings for Hugh were fading, piece by piece.

She touched Bethan’s hand gently. “Money and status don’t mean a thing. What matters is your health. Whatever happens, don’t sacrifice yourself.”
Bethan’s heart ached at her mother’s words, but she forced a bright smile and nodded.
At noon, for the first time in weeks, she sat down and enjoyed a meal with her family.
That afternoon, Bethan spent hours helping her family reorganize the apartment from top to bottom.
She bought armfuls of potted plants for the balcony, fresh flowers for the living room, and even laid out fluffy slippers for everyone. A family portrait of the four of them was also hung on the wall.

welcoming a fresh life together.
As the sky began to dim, Bethan checked her phone and noticed several missed calls.
She stepped onto the balcony and immediately returned Tristen’s. He told her Arthur’s condition had relapsed— his insomnia was back with a vengeance.
Ending the call, Bethan quickly dialed Arthur.
Arthur had been her very first patient, the one who opened doors for her, her most valuable client.
Thanks to him, she had built her reputation in the field of sleep disorders.
New patients, strangers from all over, had come to her clinic simply because of his name. She had to make sure
he was safe.
When the call connected, Arthur’s voice was low and sulky. “I’m at the airport. Come pick me up.”
He sounded like a spoiled child who’d lost his way home 2/aggrieved, demanding, and impossible to refuse. 16:41

Bethan explained to her parents where she was going and hurried straight for the airport.
At the arrivals gate, Arthur appeared—tall, striking, and draped in expensive fashion. His hair was a sharp shade of violet ash, the trendy chopped cut-lending him a wild, rebellious air. Even the way he walked was arrogant and
untamed.
Bethan greeted him with professional warmth. “Mr. Locke, welcome to New York.”
Arthur’s eyes narrowed, glaring at her. “Tell me-did you block my number?”
Bethan pulled out her phone, ready to prove she hadn’t. when Hugh’s name flashed across the screen.
Arthur snatched it from her hand and hung up without
hesitation.
When Bethan was in Canada, serving as Arthur’s attending physician, she knew all too well just how difficult and demanding the young heir of the conglomerate could be.

She took the phone back, steadying her tone. “Mr. Locke, do you have a hotel booked?”
Arthur’s eyes flicked over her with deliberate mischief. “I want to stay at your place.”
Bethan’s face hardened, and she threw out her trump card. “Don’t push it, kid.”
Arthur was the sixth grandson of his family, notorious for being spoiled, willful, and ruled entirely by aesthetics.
He couldn’t stand being called a child-anyone who dared usually regretted it instantly.
The only reason Bethan could get away with it was because of his illness and his need for her treatment.
Still, she knew better than anyone-if she actually brought Arthur home, given her suffocating situation with Hugh, their house would implode before the night
was over.
Arthur, hearing the word “kid”, deflated instantly. “Fine. I’ll stay at a hotel.”

Satisfied, Bethan let the matter drop and accompanied him to check in.
As they waited in the lobby, Arthur leaned closer, lowering his voice. “Bethy, I had a car shipped here ahead of time. After dinner, take me out for a drive around New York.”
Bethan agreed without hesitation.
It was better to babysit her high-maintenance VIP patient than go back home and face Hugh.
While she waited for Arthur to finish paperwork, Bethan unexpectedly ran into Megan.
Megan glanced around, confirming they were alone, and dropped her usual pretense. “You’re a real piece of work. One minute you’re crying about divorce, the next you’re flaunting your marriage for the cameras. I could never pull off that double act.”
Bethan’s eyes glinted with disdain. “Megan, I told you to take your child to the press conference and make the truth public. You didn’t have the guts.”

She had even planned a backup strategy, but Megan hadn’t played her part.
