Chapter 140 I Saw Her Kissing That Man

Megan forced a smile. “Titles don’t matter to me. As long

as Hugh’s heart belongs to me, that’s enough.”

Before Bethan could answer, Arthur strolled back and casually inserted himself into the conversation.

His voice was sharp with mockery. “If that’s really how you feel, then may your children, and your children’s children, spend their whole lives as mistresses.”

Megan’s face drained of all color, uglier than if she’d been slapped.

She quickly sized him up-mixed-race features, luxury clothes, the kind of presence that radiated money and

arrogance.

She didn’t dare make a scene.

Plastering on false courtesy, she murmured, “My

apologies for disturbing you both.” Then she beat a hasty

retreat.

As soon as she was gone, Bethan turned to Arthur. “How much of that did you overhear?”

Arthur wrinkled his nose, his disgust written all over his face. “Bethy, who was that pig? She’s hideous. Hurry up and take me somewhere I don’t have to look at her.”

Bethan could only stare at him, speechless.

Before eight o’clock, Bethan and Arthur were seated in a luxury restaurant in New York.

When the server poured Arthur a glass of wine, Bethan immediately pushed it away. “Mr. Locke, your chronic insomnia hasn’t been cured yet. No alcohol during

treatment.”

Arthur groaned and rolled his eyes. “You’re even more annoying than my mom.”

Bethan’s lips twitched, but she didn’t bother answering him.

By the end of the meal, the two of them had racked up a bill of one hundred and sixty thousand dollars.

Bethan didn’t blink as she swiped Hugh’s secondary card.

Outside the restaurant, Arthur pointed proudly to a customized sports car parked at the curb, the kind of rare machine that looked more like a racer than a car.

Bethan held out her hand for the keys. “You don’t know the traffic here. I’ll drive.”

Arthur leaned back with mock offense. “Bethy, this isn’t just a car. It’s a race-tuned supercar.”

But Bethan had already taken the keys, slid into the driver’s seat, buckled her belt, and started the engine with smooth familiarity.

Her voice was calm, almost casual. “I started karting when I was five. Competed in the junior WRC and even won a title. Back in college, I was an amateur driver for a racing club. You can trust my driving.”

Once, she had been dazzling too-bold, fiery, and unstoppable.

But for Hugh, she had buried all that brilliance.

She had softened her temper, hidden her sharp edges, tried to mold herself into the perfect wife, desperate to break through his coldness.

In the end, she was the one left shattered.

She was cornered and desperate. She had learned her lesson.

She would never give her heart away so recklessly again.

Arthur’s eyes lit up. “You were a racer? Perfect. I want to join a club here. Can you get me in?”

“Sure,” Bethan replied, stepping on the accelerator. The car shot forward like an arrow off the string. The two of them sped away, their taillights vanishing into the night.

From behind a column at the restaurant entrance, Megan stepped into view. She had been watching.

When Hugh’s Bentley pulled up, Megan hurried toward it.

The window rolled down, and Hugh’s voice came low and Steady. “Where’s my wife?”

Megan glanced around, lowering her voice. “Hugh, Mrs. Cavill just left with another man. I have photos. Can I get in the car before we talk?”

Hugh gave a short nod, and she climbed in.

She rushed to explain. “I’m sorry, Hugh. I know you were almost misunderstood by the media the other day just because you were buying toys for Hudson. If it hadn’t been urgent, I never would’ve called you to meet.”

As she spoke, Megan pulled out her phone and privately sent Hugh the pictures she had secretly taken of Bethan and Arthur together.
