Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 143

Chapter 143 You and Bethan Are Headed for Disaster

Hugh’s voice stopped her. “Aren’t you forgetting something?”

She turned back and gave him a quick, perfunctory kiss on the lips-the kind that felt more like checking off a box than showing affection.

Hugh’s expression darkened. “Bethan,” he said, his voice sharp with irritation, “you didn’t change my bandages last night.”

Bethan smiled awkwardly. How could she have forgotten about Hugh’s injured back?

She dropped her bag and pulled him toward the bedroom, already reaching for the first aid kit.

Without a word, she helped him out of his white dress shirt and treated his wounds.

Hugh sat on the edge of the bed in stony silence, his jaw qlenched tight.

When she finished bandaging him up, Bethan efficiently helped him back into his shirt, grabbed her purse, and headed out the door.

Hugh remained sitting there, glancing down at the shirt she’d put on him-she hadn’t bothered fastening a single button.

His

gaze drifted to the open medical kit on the

nightstand, and with a dark expression, he stood up to put everything away.

Hugh’s phone buzzed on the nightstand, and he answered angrily.

Ryan called to invite him and Bethan back to Cavill Manor for lunch.

Without a word to anyone, Hugh headed to the walk-in closet to get dressed.

Fiona immediately noticed when he arrived at Cavill Manor alone around noon. “Hugh, where’s Bethy? I thought she was coming with you.”

He shrugged casually. “Emergency surgery came up. She4

This time, Ryan was actually singing Bethan’s praises. “Bethan’s got some serious skills,” he said, leaning back in his chair. “I watched the footage from the press conference-she handled that crowd-like a pro. Guess all that high-society breeding actually paid off.”

He turned to Hugh with a pointed look. “Hugh, I hope you learned something from all this. Whether it’s people or situations, you’ve got to know what matters most.”

Hugh just gave a slight nod, his expression unreadable as always.

Harvey said, “Don’t forget-the Huvale Group annual gala is in the next few days. Madam Davis specifically invited Bethan last time, but she couldn’t make it. This time, you’re bringing her. No excuses.”

Hugh left Cavill Manor a little after two that afternoon, making a detour to pick up Hudson from his tutoring

session.

Hugh got home that evening to find Bethan still wasn’t Back.

Ever since he’d known her, Bethan had always been the one waiting for him.

He grabbed a bottle of wine and headed upstairs to knock on Mason’s door.

Mason was sprawled across his couch, telling Hugh to

chill out.

“Relax,” Mason said. “You’ve got leverage over her. She’s not going anywhere.”

Hugh felt suffocated by his own frustration. “She’s my wife. She came home after midnight last night-I’m worried about her.”

Mason laughed.

“Funny,” Mason said, “I didn’t see you worrying about Bethan when she was heartbroken over that whole Megan

and Hudson mess.”

The comment hit home, and Hugh went quiet.

He knew he owed Bethan when it came to Megan and

Hudson.

That’s why he’d tried so hard to keep her close-to make it up to her somehow.

But Bethan wouldn’t trust him and wouldn’t try to

understand.

When Hugh stayed silent, Mason said, “Don’t think you can get away with whatever you want just because you’ve got issues.”

Hugh handed Mason a drink, shooting him a warning

look.

Just then, Hugh’s phone buzzed on the coffee table.

Hugh hung up with obvious irritation.

A second later, a WhatsApp notification popped up—a message from Megan.

Hugh glanced at it, then picked up his phone to quickly reply.

Mason sat up straighter.

He asked Hugh, “Doesn’t Megan have depression? You just hung up on her-aren’t you worried she’ll have an episode and lash out at someone?”

Hugh couldn’t help but frown.

He said, “Mason, don’t talk about Megan like that. Hudson lost his backpack. She was just calling to ask me about it.”
