Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 152

Chapter 152 Don’t Make Me Hate You

Hugh grabbed Bethan by the waist and tossed her onto the bed, his body following hers down in one swift motion. The sudden weight of him, the raw force behind it, made her chest tighten. Panic surged through her as she scrambled to cover herself, clutching the last shred of protection in front of her.

“Don’t make me hate you, Hugh,” she snapped, her voice trembling as much from fear as from anger.

For a fleeting second, something flickered in his eyes -something she couldn’t name, gone before she could

catch it. Then his mouth curved into a hard line.

“Your hate doesn’t mean that much to me,” he said.

Hours later, Hugh finally got up and headed to the bathroom. The bedroom floor was a mess of scattered clothing-her black lace panties draped over his white dress shirt, the intimate chaos painting a picture of what7 had just happened.

Bethan lay on her side, motionless on the rumpled bed, the sheets having slipped down to barely cover her chest.

Her exposed skin was marked with angry bruises and scratches that told their own brutal story.

When Hugh emerged from the bathroom, he stopped dead at the sight of her still form. His brow furrowed deeply as something twisted painfully in his chest—a feeling he couldn’t quite name. His steps faltered as he turned away.

More than ten minutes passed before he reappeared, fully dressed and composed.

He approached the bed and took in the damage up close: the stark evidence written across her skin, her pale face wet with tears that wouldn’t stop falling. Those tears seemed to burn through him, leaving him restless and unsettled in a way he didn’t understand.

Without a word, he turned and left as quickly as possible.

Shortly after Hugh’s departure, Jemma burst through the door. One look at the scene told her everything she 2/6

needed to know. She immediately went to the bathroom and started running a hot bath.

“Ma’am,” Jemma said gently, approaching Bethan, “let’s get you cleaned up. I’ll take care of this mess. Please don’t punish yourself for someone else’s mistakes-no matter how angry you are.”

Bethan’s eyes fluttered open with apparent difficulty.

Jemma helped her out of bed, but her legs were shaking so badly she could barely stand.

She’d spent what felt like hours soaking in the bathtub afterward. This was the first time Hugh had ever been rough with her—really rough. He’d been relentless, ignoring her tears and pleas, as if she’d committed some unforgivable sin.

When Jemma came back in after changing the sheets and tidying up the room, she was shocked by the marks covering Bethan’s body.

After helping her dress and ensuring everything was clean, Bethan collapsed back onto the bed. “Jemma, I need you to pick up some pills for me.”

Jemma’s face showed apparent reluctance. “But if Mr. Cavill finds out…”

Bethan quickly explained that Hugh himself had reminded her to take the pills before he left-he didn’t want children. Only then did Jemma agree to go.

After taking the medication, Bethan drifted in and out of a drowsy sleep. Jemma stationed herself outside the bedroom door and didn’t dare leave her post.

Hugh never came back that night.

Hugh returned just as dawn broke, looking like he hadn’t slept all night. Jemma hurried over the moment she heard the door. “Thank god you’re back. I’ve been so

worried.”

His eyes immediately went to the master bedroom, and she could see the concern on his face. “Is she…how is she doing?”

Jemma let out a sigh. “She took the pills like you asked, but that’s it. She hasn’t had so much as a sip of water since yesterday afternoon.”

Hugh’s brow furrowed. “Pills?”

Something in his tone made Jemma pause. She studied his face carefully before asking, “The morning-after pills…wasn’t that what you wanted her to take?”

Hugh’s hands clenched at his sides, but his voice stayed level. “You can go now. I’ll handle things from here.”

But Jemma didn’t move. She’d been with this family for so many years, and she couldn’t just walk away now. “Look, I know I’m just the help, but I’ve watched you two grow up together. Those pills…they’re brutal on a woman’s body. Though she’s young, she can’t keep taking that kind of punishment.”
