Chapter 16 Cut It Out
As long as Bethan focused on this field, she was bound to achieve something.
When people were swamped with one thing, they hardly had time to worry about other things.
That bit of respite seemed to lift Bethan’s mood a little.
After dinner with her parents that evening, Bethan made her way back to the home she shared with Hugh.
To her surprise, he was already there.
As she kicked off her shoes and slipped into her slippers, Hugh got up and fetched her a glass of water. “How’s Miranda doing? Is she on the mend?”
Bethan took the glass and plopped it on the table.
Hugh always called her parents affectionately, just like she did.
He was really good at keeping up that nice-guy act.
She then pulled out the bank card her parents had given her and handed it to Hugh. “This card’s got the money you gave my parents over the years. I checked at the bank. There’s ver 3008 thousand dollars short, but the rest is in here. My parents told me to pay you back.”
Hugh just grunted and took the card.
Bethan stood up. “My parents’ll move out in a couple of days and give back the penthouse in the city center to you.”
Hugh was sitting on the sofa, twirling the bank card with his well-defined fingers.
He looked up at Bethan and grunted again, not bothering to refuse.
Bethan headed upstairs while Hugh stayed put on the sofa.
Back when the Olsen family went bankrupt, Hugh had paid off over 900 million dollars of their debt.
Even if Bethan returned everything she had, she’d never be able to settle that huge debt in her lifetime.
As Hugh finally made his way upstairs, Bethan was about to grab a pillow and a quilt to sleep in the next-door room.
Hugh closed the bedroom door behind him, walked over to her, and gently took the pillow and quilt from her hands.
“As long as we’re still married, you sleep in this bed,” he told 276 her.
Bethan turned around, but Hugh put his arm around her waist and pulled her close.
Their eyes met. Hugh softened his voice and said, “Come on, stop overthinking it.”
Seeing the pain in Bethan’s eyes, Hugh leaned in for a kiss.
But Bethan angrily pushed him away. Hugh pinned her down on the bed and slipped a pillow under her waist.
Just then, Hugh’s phone rang.
He quickly yanked the pillow out and rolled off the bed.
