Chapter 177 A Surprise for You

The next morning in the hospital’s treatment room, Bethan was giving Arthur physical therapy.

The large room was filled with the gentle scent of a special herbal incense she’d blended, which was burning in the censer. Next to the high-tech therapy bed, a brainwave synchronizer emits blue light, mimicking brainwave frequencies. Classical music from surround speakers blended into ocean-like white noise.

Arthur had showered and changed into clean, loose pajamas before lying on the treatment bed.

As Bethan prepped for the session, she asked, “When you bought that apartment, were there any other floors available in our building?”

“Floor 18 was empty,” Arthur replied.

Bethan nodded. “Cooperate with the treatment. I’ll invite you over this weekend.”

Come the weekend, Bethan and Jemma hit the fresh

produce market and loaded up on ingredients.

door.

“Go change your clothes. I’m having friends over later,” Bethan told him.

Hugh looked grim. “Bethan, come out. I need to talk to you,” he said, then headed to the living room.

Bethan exchanged a look with Jemma, set down what she was doing, and followed Hugh.

He stared into her eyes. “What are you up to buying the apartment on the 18th floor?” he demanded.

Bethan lowered her eyes.

Since she’d used Hugh’s supplementary card, he should’ve gotten the notice three days ago.

It took him long enough to ask.

She gave him a mysterious smile. “It’s a surprise for you. You’ll find out soon,” she said, then turned to go back to the kitchen.

But Hugh blocked her way, looking glum.

They stared at each other in silence. Bethan sighed.

She half-coaxed, half-pushed Hugh into the bedroom. “Look, you’re still my husband. I’m having friends over. Shape up and do me this favor,” she said.

Hugh stopped at the bedroom door, his eyes fixed on Bethan. “You really mean that?” he asked.

Bethan nodded seriously.

Hugh hesitated a bit before going in to change.

By six in the evening, all the ingredients were prepped. Bethan went to her room, took a shower, and slipped into a new outfit.

In the kitchen, Jemma walked up to Bethan. “Mrs. Cavill, if there will be a lot of guests, we’d better set up the big dining table,” she said.

Bethan nodded. “Jemma, don’t forget to grab two bottles of juice for the kid.”

He grabbed her hand. “Bethan, you’re keeping something from me, aren’t you?” he demanded.

Bethan blushed a bit. “Mason, I’ll always be the little girl in your eyes. Stop teasing me,” she said shyly.

They strolled into the living room, chatting. When Mason spotted Hugh, his face instantly hardened.

Hugh shot him a disdainful look and turned away.

Bethan nudged Hugh’s ankle with her foot and whispered, “Honey, do me a favor and be nice.”
