Chapter 182 Don’t Forget Your Promise
Bethan nodded firmly. “As long as you support my career and respect me, let’s give this relationship another go.”
Hugh stared blankly at Bethan for a moment, then the tension in his body gradually eased.
He pulled her into his arms and murmured, “Bethan, don’t forget your promise.”
Bethan gently pushed him away.
Hugh got up, led Bethan to his desk, and personally tossed that stack of documents into the shredder.
Then he took out a metal USB drive from the drawer and handed it to Bethan. “Everything’s on here. No other backups.”
He turned on the computer, plugged in the USB drive himself, and motioned for Bethan to take a look.
Bethan held back, hesitant. “You’re not pulling my leg7:10

Hugh looked into her eyes. “I said, if you’re not convinced, I’ll transfer my property to you.”

Seeing Bethan still skeptical, Hugh frowned. “Since you came back, you’ve been at odds with me. How many terms of that agreement have you actually followed? Did I hold it against you?”
After a moment of wavering, Bethan opened the files on the USB drive to check. Then she yanked out the USB drive and clutched it tightly.
Hugh shut down the computer, turned around, and put his arm around Bethan’s waist. Looking down at her, he said, “Mrs. Cavill, time to get some rest?”
The intention in Hugh’s eyes was obvious.
Just as Bethan was thinking of how to brush him off, Hugh’s phone rang.
As Hugh hesitated to pick up the phone, Bethan stole a glance at the caller ID.
It was Megan.

Without a second thought, Bethan reached over and hit the answer button.
Megan’s panicked voice rang out clearly. “Hugh! Hudson seems to have eaten something bad, and he’s been wailing in pain. I had a bit of wine tonight, so I can’t drive. Can you take Hudson to the hospital?”
Bethan immediately urged Hugh, “Go check on him right
now. It’s serious when a kid’s sick.”
But Hugh grabbed Bethan’s wrist, saying, “Let’s go together.”
Bethan shook off his hand. “When a kid has a
stomachache, they need blood tests and imaging. I won’t be any help. Just head to the hospital fast.”
She knew the child between Hugh and Megan was a lifelong bond.
No matter how much Hugh tried to deny it, deep down, he couldn’t escape the truth.
Hugh saw that so-called “generosity” in Bethan’s

expression again.
He frowned tightly and unconsciously squeezed Bethan’s hand harder. “Bethan, I know you’re not happy about Megan’s call, but the kid is innocent,” he said.
He’d just promised her to keep Megan and her son out of their lives as much as possible, yet here was Megan calling in the middle of the night.
He was certain Bethan was annoyed.
Just as they were at an impasse, Megan called Bethan’s phone.
Bethan told Megan, “Don’t panic. I’ll send him over right away.”
After hanging up, she urged Hugh to leave.
But he just stood there, rooted to the spot.
“Bethan, you promised me you’d stop making a scene,” he said.
Béthan lowered her eyes, masking the emotions within:11

“Your son is sick. I’m just telling you to go check on him. How am I making a scene?” she retorted.
Hugh held her hand and questioned, “When did you and Megan become friends?”
Bethan couldn’t help but frown and said, “Hugh, are
you out of your mind to haggle over these things at this moment?”
With a long face, Hugh asked, “She calls you when the kid’s sick, and you’re pushing me to go. When did you and Megan become so in sync?”
Bethan retorted, a bit guiltily, “Hugh, if you and Megan are really in the clear, you wouldn’t be so defensive about me being friends with her. The more you avoid it, the more it shows you’ve got something to hide!”
Hugh was left speechless by Bethan’s comeback.
Just then, Megan called for the third time, and he finally
took off.
