Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 184

Chapter 184 Full of Ideas and Handful

Lucky Draw

With a firm look in her eyes and an air of grievance, Megan held her ground.

Hugh hesitated for a moment, then took out a bank card and held it out to Megan.

“Megan, I’m giving you one last chance. Take this and leave the city with Hudson.”

money

Megan’s emotions went haywire right then and there. “I’m not leaving!”

She’d finally managed to settle down in New York. Her job was stable, and she’d befriended Elsie, a socialite.

Hugh had admitted Hudson as his son secretly, even going against his family for them. She was sure he still had feelings for her.

Once he divorced Bethan, she’d be the only woman by his side. No way was she leaving.

At Megan’s reaction, Hugh’s face darkened.

His voice took on a warning tone. “Megan, the money in this card is more than you could earn in a lifetime. If you don’t take it now, I won’t give you a third chance.”

Megan stood before Hugh, her palms sweating inside her clenched fists.

No matter how much money was in that card, it was a drop in the bucket for Hugh.

Once she married him and became Mrs. Cavill, all the Cavill family’s wealth would be hers.

She couldn’t be short-sighted.

Steeling herself, Megan continued, “Hugh, ever since your mom came to see me, I’ve moved out of the house you bought for me. I’ve been keeping my distance from you and your wife. You’ve seen that for yourself.

“The apartment upstairs was a gift from your wife to Hudson, and it was also her idea to recognize him as her godson. I tried to refuse, but what could I do when she threatened me?”

Noticing Hugh’s silence, Megan paused briefly before going on.

“Now, your family and your wife have accepted Hudson as your son. If your wife really recognizes him as her godson, it’ll be easier for us to explain things to others.”

Megan was as glib as ever.

Before Hugh could say a word, she continued, “But if you mind, I’ll return the property deed to your wife tomorrow. I’ll just rent the place.

“Hugh, I may be poor, but I’ve got my pride. You don’t have to keep testing me. If I had any ulterior motives towards you, I wouldn’t have waited six years to come back to the States.”

As Megan spoke with conviction, the coldness in Hugh’s eyes gradually faded.

Seeing a softening in Hugh’s expression, Megan added, “Hugh, I’ve just realized that your wife is really nice. I get along well with her and cherish our friendship. I’d rather have a good friend like her than live with my head down, Pelfing on your money.

“Because of your grandpa, I’ve messed up my entire life’s happiness for you. You recognized Hudson as your son, even if it meant straining things with your wife, just to make it up to me and keep us safe. We’re square now. From here on out, no matter how big the trouble I’m in, I’d rather go to your wife for help than come to you again. So, please leave,” Megan said, laying all the blame on Bethan.

Not only did she turn down Hugh’s bank card, but she also made it clear that she wanted nothing more to do with him.

Hugh was left speechless.

Glancing at Megan and Hudson on the bed, he finally said, “The kid’s asleep. You should get some rest, too.”

With a heavy heart, Hugh made his way home.

Megan had always been gentle-natured and insecure. She wouldn’t have the nerve to do such things.

On the other hand, Bethan was full of ideas and a bit of a handful.

There wasn’t much she wouldn’t try.

Late at night, Bethan was curled up under the quilt, carefully going through what she’d copied from Hugh’s

computer.

Hearing the door open outside, she quickly shut off her phone and closed her eyes.

Hugh pushed open the bedroom door.
