Chapter 207 I’ll Give You A Little Reward

Bethan stopped in her tracks, and Megan continued, “About last night, don’t let it bother you. Mrs. Fiona Cavill just wanted to see her grandson. She asked me and Hugh to bring the boy over, and we ended up having dinner together.”

Bethan shot her a disdainful look. “So when will Fiona let your boy take the Cavill name and welcome you two home?” Her words wiped the smile right off Megan’s face.

Megan forced herself to swallow her anger, then put on a fake calm. “Bethan, I get it. You envy me. But you don’t need to say things like that to rattle me. If it weren’t for me telling Hugh to head home early to be with you last night, he would’ve stayed at my place. You’ve got nothing to brag about.”

Bethan pulled a wad of cash from her bag and tossed it in front of Megan. “Megan, if you can keep Hugh at your place overnight next time, just one night, I’ll give you a little reward. How about it?”

Megan’s face went rigid in an instant, her features stiffening visibly.

Spotting a colleague waving from afar, Bethan shot Megan a disdainful look and said, “Instead of picking fights with

should think about how to please Hugh. He tried to sleep with me last night, but I beat him up-so now’s your chance to go give him some sympathy.”

Bethan walked off with her coworker, leaving Megan frozen there, her teeth sinking deep into her bottom lip.

Megan burned with rage. The divorce was supposedly happening, but Bethan still clung to Hugh. That promise of working together, of divorcing to help her rise, had been nothing but fake words.

She’s been playing me from the start!

Clenching her jaw, Megan spat out, “Damn bitch!”

At that moment, a middle-aged woman happened to pass. She looked around, saw no one nearby, then pointed at Megan and snapped, “Who the hell are you cursing at?”

Megan eyed the woman from head to toe, sneering, “What’s wrong with you? I wasn’t talking about you.”

The woman clearly wasn’t one to mess with. “It’s just the two of us here. If you weren’t cursing me, who else?”

With a derisive huff, Megan turned her back and left.

Seeing that, the woman lunged, yanked Megan’s hair, and

slapped her twice. “Think you can insult people and just walk off? No way!”

Megan cried out in pain, shouting, “You old hag! Let me go, or you’ll regret it!”

The woman, refusing to back down, slapped her twice more. “Who are you calling an old hag, huh?”

When the people around caught sight of it, they hurried to break the two apart.

Megan, being a minor internet influencer, panicked at the thought of being seen. She covered her face and slunk into her

car.

To her, it was pure bad luck. She only cursed under her breath, yet a stranger smacked her four times, even ripping out her hairpiece.

Megan thanked her quick reflexes for helping her protect her nose that had just been cosmetically treated. If not, she wouldn’t dare go out for a while. All she did was step outside in the morning, and even street nobodies dared to humiliate her.

Overwhelmed, she held the wheel tight and screamed at the top of her lungs.

That evening, Megan lingered downstairs at Hugh’s place, watching the clock. The moment she saw him arrive and step out of the car, she rushed over.

When Hugh noticed her cheek was red and swollen, his brows knitted. “What happened to your face?”

Covering her sore cheek, Megan said pitifully, “Hugh, it was your mother who called me last night and told me to take the child to see her. I never meant to bother you and your wife.”

Hugh’s expression grew darker. “You went to see her?”

Megan shook her head frantically. “No, I didn’t. Things have been rough at home lately, and I haven’t been sleeping at all. I was worried my depression might come back, so I was heading to the hospital. I just happened to run into your wife in the parking lot.”

When Hugh stayed quiet, she went on to say, “Your wife saw us together last night and thought the worst. She threw money at me in front of her coworkers, called me names, and even said she’d pay me to sleep with you.” 4/5
