Not once did she bring up catching Hugh with Megan and

Hudson.

Hugh lingered at the edge of the bed, watching Bethan quietly before speaking, “My mom set up that meeting with Megan. She sprained her ankle, and I only held Hudson and gave her a hand.”

Bethan kept her eyes shut and said flatly, “That’s your woman and your son. Do whatever you want with them. You don’t need to explain it to me.”

His brow furrowed as he stared at her. Sitting down beside her, he pulled her to face him. “Bethan, I’ve told you again and again. She’s not my woman.”

Bethan countered, “But you can’t deny she’s the mother of your child, can you?”

Hugh’s expression flickered uncertainly before he said nothing at all.

Too tired to care, Bethan muttered, “Hugh, you’ve already had a child with Megan, and you expect me to believe she’s not your woman? What a joke.” She turned over and went straight to sleep.

and pulled

Hugh climbed into bed, stretched out his long arm, her into his arms. Resting his chin in the crook of her neck, he muttered, “At least since Megan came back, I haven’t touched

her.”

He couldn’t explain the kid’s existence, and so he couldn’t make Bethan believe that nothing had ever happened between him and Megan.

Bethan pulled the covers tight around herself, her voice dripping with scorn. “I don’t believe a word of it.”

Her obvious rejection set Hugh off. He threw back the blanket, hauled her into his arms, and pressed his lips down on hers.

Bethan screamed in fright, thrashing with her hands and feet to fight him off.

Hugh was so enraged by her reaction that his expression went beyond grim. He grabbed hold of the ankle she had kicked against his chest and said, “Bethan, like it or not, we’re still married. Is this really how a wife should act?”

Bethan bundled herself up in the covers, lying rigid on the bed.

Then, she looked at Hugh dead in the eye and said firmly, “Even if Megan is your precious first love, she’s still been married before. If she can stomach being someone’s mistress, 2/5

are between you two, what if you pass something on to me?

“I don’t trust her, and I don’t trust you either. Both of you are going to the hospital tomorrow for a full checkup, or we start sleeping in separate rooms.’

Stung by Bethan’s response, Hugh seized her ankle, dragged her close, and trapped her in his arms through the covers.

In the heat of the moment, Bethan snatched up her phone and hurled it right at his head.

The phone struck Hugh right in the forehead, and blood came out on the spot. They locked eyes for a split second, and she let the phone slip from her hands in shock.

With a stormy expression, he released Bethan, and the two of them retreated from the bed.

The two of them faced each other across the wide bed, saying nothing. After a brief stare, Hugh turned and left, while she rushed to lock the bedroom door.

Bethan couldn’t help feeling frustrated-she hadn’t said a word, and he was the one acting all worked up.

At dawn the following day, Bethan rose from bed.

Hugh, who had spent the night sulking on the couch, stood up with a gloomy face when he saw her. The cut on his forehead was still exposed, completely untreated.

When their eyes locked, Bethan deliberately overlooked his bleeding forehead and turned toward the dining area.

Hugh stood there fuming for a while before walking into the master bedroom without a word.

Right before leaving, Bethan turned to Jemma. “Jemma, get the small bedroom cleaned up for me.”

Lately, Bethan had been so buried in work that she hadn’t made time to sort out her personal life.

Since Hugh had no feelings for her, she wouldn’t dare push too far, even without the marital agreement holding her back.

Bethan thought that if she ever pushed him too far and he decided to strike back, she’d have no choice but to take it. But sleeping in separate rooms shouldn’t be an issue.
