Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 214

Chapter 214 What Are You up To?

Mason caught Bethan’s cue and shoved Hugh toward Megan with a playful grin.

“Hugh, come on, man. That’s low. Your kid with Megan’s practically old enough for school. You can’t just pretend you’re not involved at a time like this.”

Before Hugh could respond, Arthur pointed at him and Megan, chiming in, “I can vouch for it-they’re a couple. Their kid’s already a big boy.”

The crowd buzzed with gossip, their voices growing louder.

The accusations against Hugh intensified, each word stinging sharper than the last.

Hugh stood frozen, his face a mask of barely contained fury.

His lips pressed into a thin line, his piercing gaze fixed on Bethan with a ferocity that could’ve burned through steel.

Bethan, calm as ever, seemed to drink in his anger like a spectator enjoying a show.

Arthur, not done stirring the pot, raised his voice. “His wife’s qrying her eyes out, and he doesn’t even care. Her mom collapsed on the ground, and he’s just standing there. I’ve

never seen a guy this heartless.”

Mason added fuel to the fire. “If he can treat his own family like this, you can bet there’s some other woman on the side.”

The two played off each other, their banter seamless.

The crowd’s attention shifted from Bethan, their gazes softening into pity for Megan as their condemnation of Hugh grew more heated.

“He looks so polished, but he’s a total scumbag.”

“Look at that guy in his fancy suit, then look at the poor old lady on the ground. She’s dressed in rags.”

“He’s got a wife and kid, and he’s still messing around? Men like that deserve to die alone.”

Unable to bear the crowd’s relentless attacks on Hugh, Megan snapped.

She surged forward, shielding him, and shouted at the onlookers, “Shut up, all of you!”

Her voice trembled with emotion. “You don’t know anything! Who are you to judge him?”

Don’t worry about me.”

Megan shook her head frantically, clinging to his arm. “No, this is my fault. I can’t just stand by and let them tear you apart like this.”

Bethan watched the two locked in their heartfelt exchange, half-tempted to give them a slow clap for the performance.

Hugh caught the mocking curl of Bethan’s lips and subtly pushed Megan away.

A middle-aged woman stepped up to Megan, her tone firm but kind. “There are plenty of good men out there. If your husband’s heart isn’t with you anymore, stop defending him.”

An elderly woman nodded in agreement. “A man like that’s no good. Divorce him and move on.”

A younger woman chimed in, “A guy like him deserves a doormat who’ll put up with anything.

“They’re perfect for each other-otherwise, he’ll just go ruin some other girl’s life.”

Megan stood in the crowd, mortified, her cheeks burning with shame.

Hugh pointed to Rachel on the ground. “Get her to the hospital

now.”

Jacob glanced nervously at Bethan but moved to follow orders.

Bethan strolled over, her tone almost lazy as she stopped him.

“The patient’s condition is unclear,” she said calmly. “You can’t just move her.”

Jacob froze, startled, and backed off.

Megan, seeing Bethan approach her mother, panicked and rushed to block her. “What are you up to?”

Bethan shot a glance at Hugh. “Didn’t you ask me to provide first aid? Move.”

Megan’s panic spiked. She sidled up to Hugh, her voice trembling. “Hugh, stop her! She’s just looking for a chance to get back at us!”

Hugh stepped in front of Bethan, blocking her path.

“Are you genuinely trying to help her?” he asked, his voice laced with skepticism.

Bethan met his gaze, her eyes cool and piercing.

“Hugh,” she said calmly, “you aren’t worth my time or energy for revenge.”

Her icy stare hit Hugh like a slap, but he swallowed his anger, keeping it in check.

Bethan shot a glance at Mason, who nodded subtly and nudged
