Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 222

Chapter 222 Bethan Isn’t Fit to Be A Cavill

Hugh grabbed her wrist. “Wait. I’ll go with you.”

Ryan approached, his face stormy. “Both of you, get back to Cavill Manor. Now.”

Ten minutes later, they were in the car.

Hugh draped a blanket over Bethan’s lap, then picked up the bracelet.

“This was a gift from a priest to my grandfather,” he said. “He wore it every day for over thirteen years. Someone once offered over 100 million dollars for it, but he wouldn’t part with it. Then he gave it to James. Now that James has given it to you, keep it safe.”

Bethan’s gaze flickered with suspicion.

He tucked the bracelet into her bag and said, “No matter what anyone says, I trust you.”

Bethan looked away, her face blank. “But I don’t trust you, and I don’t need your trust.”

The words silenced him.

Bethan clutched the bracelet tightly, taking a deep breath.

She hadn’t expected it to carry such weight. All the more reason, she thought, to return them to James herself one day.

She turned her head to watch the street slide past the window.

Hugh’s gaze lingered on her.

Her trust in him had crumbled completely.

Even now, with his earnest words, she assumed he was still playing her.

They rode in silence back to Cavill Manor.

Bethan stepped out of the car, gathering her long hair into a loose twist.

Hugh slipped off his suit jacket and draped it over her shoulders.

“Whatever my parents or grandfather say tonight,” he said, “just ignore them. I’ve got you.”

Bethan met his eyes. “Save your protection for Megan. I don’t need it.”

Hugh’s grip tightened on her wrist. “I’ve deleted all of Megan’s contact info. I’ve apologized. Can you stop acting like this?”

Their eyes locked, and Bethan shook off his hand.

At the Kroos family banquet, the guests’ whispered gossip had

been vicious.

She’d cringed hearing it, and Ryan must have been livid.

James had promised to keep her and her family safe.

Now, she wanted to see which family held the most sway-the Cavills, the Keatings, or the Kroos.

She needed to test James’ influence over the Cavill and Kroos families to see if he had the clout to back her up and help her secure a divorce.

As Bethan and Hugh stepped into the living room side by side, a cup came hurtling toward her head.

Hugh’s reflexes kicked in, and he swiftly pulled Bethan into his arms, shielding her.

The teacup missed its mark, shattering on the floor behind them with a sharp, crystalline crash.

Releasing Bethan, Hugh turned to Harvey, his voice laced with

indignation. “Grandfather, what are you doing?”

Harvey, leaning on his cane in front of the living room’s central sofa, pointed a trembling finger at Bethan. “How dare you do that in public!”

Bethan pushed past Hugh, her face a mask of icy defiance as she faced Harvey.

“Harvey,” she shot back, “if you’ve got something to say, say it. Stop trying to intimidate me. I’m not your grandchild-I don’t have to answer to you.”

Ryan, incensed by her audacity, jabbed a finger at her. “You married into the Cavill family, which makes you one of us. You follow our rules, and you listen when we speak!”

Hugh stepped in front of Bethan, his voice firm. “Grandfather, Dad, if you’ve got a problem, take it up with me. Don’t talk to my wife like that.”

The word “wife” made Bethan’s brow furrow in irritation.

She shoved Hugh aside, locking eyes with Harvey. “I may have married into the Cavill family, but have you ever treated me like one of you?”

Her voice sharpened. “Hugh cheated on me and had a child

a 476 with another woman. As his elders, have you ever once
