Chapter 223 Where Did Your Son Come From?

Fiona seized the moment to interject. “At tonight’s banquet, Bethan ignored her own husband to show up with my half-brother, letting people gossip about the Cavill family. It’s unacceptable.”

She continued, her tone measured but pointed, “Now she’s defying our family rules and disrespecting us. I don’t think Bethan is fit to be a Cavill anymore. Why don’t we make the call and let them divorce?”

Her words hung in the air, and Hugh’s voice cut through, low and sharp. “Mom, what are you talking about?”

He turned to the room, his tone resolute. “How many times do I have to say it? I’m not divorcing Bethan!”

Bethan stood still, her expression unreadable.

She knew Fiona’s words were meant to help free her from this mess, and she was quietly grateful.

She just couldn’t fathom why Hugh was so stubbornly against a divorce.

Ryan pointed at Hugh, his voice dripping with disappointment. “You idiot! Even now, you’re protecting her?”

He continued, “She’s your wife, yet she’s dragging the Cavill

name through the mud, letting people mock us in public. Why don’t you ask her what she’s really after?”

Hugh glanced at Bethan, his heart heavy with understanding.

He knew what she was doing.

She was forcing a divorce.

But he’d rather die than agree to it.

“Bethan’s a doctor,” he said, his voice steady. “She’s Mr. Keating’s junior. She’s dedicated to her work and respectful to her elders. What has she done wrong?”

Every word of his was a defense of Bethan.

But she felt no gratitude.

“It’s not like I forced Hugh to sleep with another woman,” she said coldly. “He cheated with Megan and had a son with her- that’s a fact. If you’re so powerful, go silence everyone’s gossip. Don’t take it out on me just because my family couldn’t back me up!”

Harvey, silent until now, pointed at Bethan, his hand shaking with rage. “You insolent girl! How dare you speak like that?”

Bethan stood tall, unflinching. “I’m speaking the truth. Everyone in the Cavill family knows what happened, so why can’t I say it?”

In the past, her love for Hugh had extended to his family.

For his sake, she’d been deferential, tiptoeing around their egos to keep the peace.

That made it easy for them to walk all over her.

Now, she was done with Hugh—and their rules could go to hell.

If they didn’t like her, they could make Hugh divorce her.

If they couldn’t do that, they’d have to deal with her.

But wear her down with their drama? Not a chance.

Harvey jabbed a finger toward the door. “Guards! Tie up this disgraceful girl!”

At his command, several bodyguards stormed into the room.

Hugh grabbed Bethan’s wrist, pulling her close. “Grandfather, Bethan is my wife. Don’t go too far!”

Bethan wrenched herself free from his grasp.

Hugh snapped, exasperated, “Now’s not the time to fight with

me!”

Bethan’s gaze was icy and distant. “Seeing you like this reminds me of how you protected Megan. It makes my stomach turn.”

Their eyes locked, her disgust unmistakable.

Hugh stumbled back a step, shaken.

Bethan pulled out her phone, her tone calm but defiant as she addressed Harvey. “I have an appointment at Keating Mansion tomorrow to treat Mr. Keating. If you lay a hand on me tonight, I’ll tell him you’re forcing me to abandon his treatment. I’ll say you want him tortured by his insomnia, trapped in that wheelchair forever.”

Harvey’s eyes flashed with menace.

His voice trembled with fury. “You dare threaten me, you little brat?”

Bethan shrugged lightly. “It’s not a threat. I was just trying to:48 protect myself.”

Fiona, catching the escalating tension, shot Hugh a quick look.

Hugh grabbed Bethan’s wrist and started pulling her toward

the door.

Unable to break free, Bethan glanced back as they walked. “Harvey, don’t take that personally. Your whole family’s got a screw loose.”

She continued, her voice dripping with sarcasm, “Your grandson cheats, and that’s fine. I work hard, and somehow that’s a crime. You truly are beyond reason.”

“Get out!” Harvey roared, grabbing another cup from the coffee table and hurling it at her.
