Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 224

Chapter 224 The Silent Treatment

Bethan leaned in close, studying his face. “Then where did your son come from?”

She pressed on, her tone mocking. “You didn’t touch her? What, did you find that boy on the street?”

The two of them locked eyes at close range, Hugh’s lips pressed together in silence.

Bored, Bethan shut her eyes and pretended to rest.

Neither spoke a single word on the drive home.

When they arrived, the silence continued. They each went to wash up separately.

By the time Hugh came out of the bathroom, Bethan was already in bed, ready to sleep.

He walked to her side with a heavy heart and asked, “If I don’t come talk to you first, are you planning to keep giving me the silent treatment forever?”

Bethan sat up on the bed and nodded seriously.

Hugh’s tone sharpened. “Bethan, this is emotional abuse.”19:48

The accusation wiped the calm from her face.

She knelt on the bed and lifted her chin to meet his eyes.

“If me not talking counts as abuse,” she shot back, “then what about you sneaking out to Megan in the middle of the night, leaving me alone at home? What about when I fainted and you didn’t even care? What do you call that?”

The room fell into suffocating silence as they stared at each other.

Hugh wanted to punch himself.

Every wound he had ever given Bethan, she remembered.

He shouldn’t have been so quick to demand anything from her.

He sat down on the edge of the bed and took her hand firmly, not allowing her to pull away. “I have to leave for Australia tomorrow. I’ll be gone about two weeks.”

The obvious change of subject left Bethan speechless.

She yanked her hand back. “That’s not something I need to

know.”

But Hugh refused to let her push him away. 2/6

He leaned forward, pulled her into his arms, and buried his head in her neck. His voice was low and muffled. “You’re my wife. If I don’t tell you, who else would I tell?”

Bethan struggled in his tight embrace, almost choking from how hard he was holding her. Finally, she pushed herself free.

“A real man,” she said coldly, “shares his love equally. If you’ve still got the energy, go spend it on Megan. Talk with her until the world ends for all I care. I’m exhausted. I need to sleep.”

She dragged the blanket over herself and wrapped it tight. “And shut the door on your way out.”

Hugh stared down at her, his expression dark and dangerous.

“I know you’re disappointed in me,” he said. “But I need to remind you-James has it out for both the Kroos and Cavill families. Don’t let him use you. Unless it’s necessary, stay away

from him.”

Bethan’s tone was dismissive. “James is your uncle, not a stranger. What’s so wrong if I’m close to him?”

Hugh frowned. “He’s been abroad for years. He has ties to the underworld. I’m warning you for your own good.”

Bethan’s eyes flashed. “Hugh, if you keep pressuring me, 376 maybe I’ll just make the effort to become James’ wife.”

Hugh’s face turned black. “Don’t you dare.”

“Why not?” Bethan challenged. “You cheat, sleep with other women, and even have a bastard child. What can’t I do?”

Their gazes collided, the tension thick and suffocating.

Hugh’s breathing turned ragged, his chest heaving visibly.

He stared at her for a long time, then suddenly stood and left the room.

As soon as he closed the door, Bethan slipped out of bed, barefoot, and locked it from the inside.

The next morning, while Hugh was busy on the phone in his study, Bethan left the house early.

Around nine o’clock, Hugh knocked on the door of her office

and came in.

He set a cup of coffee on her desk. “I’m boarding soon. Call me anytime if you need me.”

Bethan looked up at him. “Megan’s mother is still lying in the hospital bed. You’re not going to see her before you leave?”
