Bethan asked Joe to try coaxing Henry out of Calvin’s arms, but after several attempts, it was clear the little boy wasn’t budging.

Since that wasn’t working, Bethan had Calvin continue holding Henry while he filled them in on the situation. Every word Calvin spoke hit like a punch to the gut.

“Three years ago, Henry and his mother were kidnapped,” Calvin began, his voice steady but strained. “The kidnappers killed his mother-she bled out. Henry witnessed the whole thing and developed severe PTSD from the trauma. He’s been in therapy ever since.” Calvin’s arms tightened protectively around the small boy. “On the surface, he seems like any other kid, but he won’t speak. He can’t sleep without medication, and even then, nightmares wake him up almost every single time.”

Calvin’s expression darkened. “Yesterday at school, some kids beat him up-gave him a head injury-and bullied him verbally. He’s been like this ever since. Last night at 1:05 AM, the doctor gave him a low-dose sedative. He only slept for about forty minutes before waking up in this state.”

Bethan’s eyes flickered with uncertainty. Last night, Hugh had told her that Hudson had gotten into a fight at school and seriously hurt someone. The other party refused to settle. Could it possibly be Calvin and Henry?

“Dr. Olsen,” Calvin said, his voice tight with emotion, “Mr. Dixon told me you’re not only an excellent sleep disorder specialist, but you also have a master’s in psychology. If you can help my son, name your price. Anything.”

“Mr. Byron, please don’t worry,” Bethan replied softly, still holding Henry. “I’m a doctor first and foremost. I’ll do everything in my power to help every patient who comes to me.”

She shifted Henry gently in her arms. “Right now, he’s emotionally overwhelmed. Let me get him settled in a room first, okay?”

Calvin nodded, something shifting in his chest as he watched her.

When Tristen first recommended Dr. Olsen, Calvin had doubts about him. She seemed too young, too inexperienced.

But after just these few minutes together, his opinion was already changing. Yes, she was young, but there was something maternal about her patience and gentleness. She was careful without being rigid, professional without being cold.

Even if Bethan couldn’t heal Henry, at least Henry didn’t hate her—and the fact that he’d let her hold him felt like a minor miracle.

Ten minutes later, Bethan carried Henry through the hospital entrance with Calvin.

When they exited the elevator, she spotted Hugh and Megan standing outside one of the patient rooms.

Megan’s eyes lit up when she saw Bethan holding a child while walking alongside a man, and Hugh was right there to witness it all. It was perfect.

Hugh’s gaze moved from the kid in Bethan’s arms to Calvin standing beside her. Something shifted in his expression.

Hugh walked over, his voice carefully neutral. “Do you two know each other?”

Bethan glanced at Megan, lurking behind Hugh, but didn’t

answer.

So that was why he’d insisted on bringing “him” to the hospital this morning. It made sense-Hugh would only drop everything for Megan or Hudson at the company.

Seeing how Hugh and Megan were both reacting, it had to be Hudson who’d hurt Henry.

The silence stretched. Bethan said nothing. Hugh’s face darkened. Megan looked way too pleased with herself.

The whole hallway suddenly felt charged with tension.

Calvin cleared his throat politely. “Dr. Olsen, do you know these people?”
