Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 248

Chapter 248 Why Did You Kill Our Baby?

Bethan’s voice was weak. “The anesthesiologist was a few minutes late.”

She spotted Hugh standing in the distance. “Yvonne, thank you.”

Yvonne and the nurse helped Bethan reach where Hugh stood and quietly left them alone.

Hugh stared at Bethan’s pale, fragile form, and his entire heart trembled.

His eyes blazing red, he stepped forward and pulled her hard against his chest.

His voice was raw and shaking as he fought to keep control. “Why?” he whispered. “Why did you kill our baby?”

Bethan let Hugh hold her, her voice weak but steady. “I don’t want to let go either, but I can’t keep this baby.”

Hugh’s arms trembled as he held her. “Why can’t you keep it? This is our first child!”

He was completely losing it. “Do you have any idea how long 1/6

Bethan let out a bitter laugh. “Hugh, you want me to have this baby so it can end up just like me? Ignored by you, manipulated by you, used by you? You want our child to swallow every hurt and watch you run to that woman and her son every single day?”

Hugh completely broke down. Tears streamed down his face, his eyes bloodshot with pain. “Bethan, Megan and I were never actually together—not really!” he said.

His voice was hoarse and shaking badly.

He looked straight at Bethan, forcing out each word. “Hudson isn’t even my biological son. He’s Megan’s kid with her

ex-husband!”

Bethan’s face was ghostly pale as tears slipped down her cheeks without warning.

Her smile was forced and heartbreaking. “Hugh, we’ve known each other for over twenty years since we were kids. We’ve been married for three years, and I would’ve given you my heart on a silver platter. But you threw it all away to play daddy to Megan’s son.”

Bethan’s voice was steady, but her words cut deep. “Your confession now just makes me realize how cheap I must be to 2/6

The world went black around her, and she slowly lost

When Bethan woke up again, she found herself back home in New York.

She looked at Hugh, slumped beside her, his hand wrapped around her wrist as he slept. Struggling, she sat up and reached for her phone.

Hugh stirred awake at the movement.

Just one day and night had passed, but stubble already shadowed his jaw, and he looked like he’d aged years. His eyes were still red-rimmed.

He pulled his phone from his pocket and carefully handed it to her.

When he spoke, his voice was rough and broken with pain. “I called Tristen and got you a few days off work. Just rest and take care of yourself.”

Hearing that Hugh had already handled her time off, Bethan took the phone and lay back down.

Hugh stood by the bed, his red eyes fixed on her, clearly wanting to say something. He opened his mouth several times but couldn’t get the words out.

Jemma came in carrying soup, and Hugh took it from her.

He set the bowl on the nightstand and sat on the edge of the bed, gently pulling her blanket down. “Jemma made you some soup. Try to eat a little before you sleep.”

When Bethan didn’t respond, Hugh waited. After a long moment, he stood defeated and walked out of the bedroom.

Jemma patted Bethan’s shoulder gently. “Sweetie, you need to take care of yourself. At least try to eat something.”

Only then did Bethan weakly sit up.

Jemma tucked a pillow behind Bethan’s back to support her, then started feeding her.

Jemma couldn’t stop sighing. “Such a sweet child,” she said softly. “What a tragedy.”

Tears welled up in Bethan’s eyes. “Jemma, I wanted to keep this baby too. But I’m scared.”

She continued, “He’d do anything for Megan-even treat her

ex-husband’s kid like his own son. For those two, he’s pushed me aside, threatened me, told me I’m not allowed to cry or make a scene or even mention divorce.”

She kept going, her voice breaking. “He looked me straight in the eye and called Megan his wife. Said her child couldn’t be a bastard because he’s Megan’s husband, Hudson’s father.” Her hands trembled. “Jemma, he’s given them everything. That was his choice.”

Bethan sneered, “For Megan and Hudson, for Megan’s son—he threw me away. He killed my baby.”
