He saw Fiona and Gwen walking in, and his eyes dropped to the floor.

Fiona and Gwen brushed past Hugh without a word and headed straight for the master bedroom.

The sound of crying drifted from the bedroom. Hugh’s eyes reddened as he turned and retreated to his study.

Ten minutes later, Fiona walked out of the master bedroom and asked Jemma, “Where’s that bastard?”

Jemma pointed toward the study. Fiona clicked across the floor in her heels and marched into the room.

When the study door closed behind her, Fiona raised her hand and slapped Hugh twice across the face.

Hugh just stood there and took it. He didn’t even try to dodge.

Fiona jabbed her finger at his nose, her voice shaking with rage. “For some bastard kid, you forced your own wife to abort your real son. Are you happy now?”

child from it. She couldn’t survive over there anymore, so she came back to me. I just wanted to make it up to her somehow.”

Fiona’s arms trembled with fury. “Making it up to her means playing daddy to her kid and destroying your own family?”

Hugh shook his head in anguish. “When Megan came back, she was already suffering from severe depression. I promised to help hide the kid’s real father because I was scared Grandpa would go after her again. I wanted her to get back on her feet and live without constantly looking over her shoulder.”

Hugh pressed his hand against his chest, trying to push down the dull ache in his heart.

He thought he could balance things between Bethan and

Megan.

He never imagined it would spiral this far out of control.

And he definitely never expected that Bethan would hide her pregnancy from him and secretly abort their child behind his back.

Fiona jabbed her finger right at Hugh. “Hugh, you’re my son! Don’t think I don’t know exactly what you’re thinking. You’re getting this divorce whether you want to or not!”

Fiona pointed straight at his nose, her voice sharp with anger. “You’re just like your father, just like your grandfather. Every single man in the Cavill family is the same-cold-blooded, heartless, and selfish!”

Her face had gone completely pale with rage.

She continued, “You keep saying you only feel guilty about Megan, that it’s just compensation. But then you lie to Bethan, don’t come home for a month, plan cruises and beach trips and flowers for that woman and her kid. You personally bake Megan a cake and post it on Instagram. How exactly do you explain that?”

Hugh sank into the couch, leaning forward with his elbows on his knees, running his hands through his hair.

He stayed quiet for a long moment.

Finally, he spoke, “Mom, Megan was my first love. When we broke up back then, it was Grandpa who forced us apart. I’ll admit that seeing her again really messed with my head emotionally. But I have my limits. I never touched her. I never betrayed Bethan. And I sure as hell never thought about getting divorced.”

together and spoke to Hugh with deliberate precision, “Hugh, there are many kinds of betrayal, and emotional affairs count as cheating too. The moment you claimed Megan’s boy as your own, you sealed your fate. You can’t keep Bethan’s baby, and you can’t keep Bethan either.”

She sighed, “Last night, Harvey found out you destroyed his great-grandson for some bastard child. He had a heart attack and they rushed him to the hospital.”

She continued, “You better divorce Bethan before Harvey wakes up and move in with Megan and Hudson. That way, you might actually be able to protect them.”

Fiona spotted Mason at the doorway and left the study.

Hugh slumped on the couch like a broken man. His suppressed emotions teetered on the edge of complete breakdown.

Mason watched Hugh’s hands shake uncontrollably as he tried to light a cigarette. After several failed attempts, Mason took the lighter and lit it for him.

Hugh sat with his back to the light, his face lost in shadows. His long fingers gripped the cigarette as he took a desperate drag, the smoke blurring his already dim vision.

After a long silence, he finally asked Mason, “Are you here to tell me to get divorced too?”

Mason glanced at Hugh, then settled into the chair across from him. “When Bethan didn’t hesitate to abort your baby, she was telling you exactly how determined she is to divorce you. Things have gotten this far-do I really need to spell it out for you?”

Hugh completely lost it. His voice turned harsh and desperate. “Look around us-there are plenty of cheating husbands whose families are doing just fine. I just had a moment of weakness and agreed to claim Megan’s son as mine. I was trying to help her, that’s all. Why does everyone treat me like I’m some kind of criminal?”
