Fiona continued, “It’s all there in black and white. I won’t ask for a penny more, but I won’t take a penny less either. You and your son need to clear out of this house tonight.

“I know you don’t have that kind of money, so before I came here, I already sent people to find your mother and your brother. Your bags and jewelry can cover part of it.

Your mom and brother can handle the rest.”

Megan panicked instantly. “Don’t you dare drag my brother and my two nephews into this!”

Fiona let out a cold laugh. “The Ridley family raised such a wonderful daughter-making money by selling her body to pay for her nephews’ education. Of course I should do everyone a favor and spread the good news. Let the whole Ridley family share in the glory.”

Megan’s voice was venomous as she threatened Fiona. “Ng matter what, I’m still the woman Hugh lovec most:47 Aren’t you afraid your son will hate you for doing this?”

Fiona glanced at her dismissively. “I’m not even sure I want to claim him as my son. You think I’m worried about him hating me?”

Megan’s eyes widened in disbelief.

Fiona’s tone turned almost helpful. “Megan, Harvey already knows the truth about that little bastard’s parentage. If you don’t want to end up dead, you better start figuring out how to save your own skin.”

After giving her two bodyguards a meaningful look, Fiona turned and walked away.

Half an hour later, every valuable thing Megan had brought with her was gone.

Megan stared at her phone as calls from Rachel, Jasper, and Nola flooded in. Her emotions finally snapped, and she hurled the phone against the wall.

Hudson’s crying and wailing behind her made something ugly twist in her chest.

She roughly dragged Hudson into the bathroom, ignoring Ri’s obvious pain.

Megan grabbed Hudson by the neck and shoved him down against the toilet, then started twisting his small body with brutal force.

Hudson sobbed and begged through his pain. “Mommy, please stop! I’ll be good, I promise!”

Megan’s eyes were bloodshot with rage, her face twisted with hatred that could kill.

She grabbed Hudson and started pinching him while snarling through gritted teeth. “You useless piece of trash! You can’t even make Hugh like you. What good are you to me? I should’ve strangled you when you were born, you worthless burden!”

She’d fallen for Fiona’s manipulation-letting herself get framed for selling knockoffs. Now she’d lost her job and been cyberbullied for over a month. Her reputation was utterly destroyed.

Someone had thrown paint all over her rental house. Her car got smashed. She couldn’t even pick up her kid from school without people blocking the entrance. Even Rachel got caught in the crossfire and broke her leg, so now she Rad to stay with Jasper and Nola.

Now Fiona had played her final card, backing not just Megan but Jasper’s entire family into a corner with no way out.

No matter what, she couldn’t let Fiona get away with this.

She had to find somewhere to stay first, then track down Hugh and demand answers.

Hudson’s crying and screaming lasted until after midnight. Only when Megan had vented all her rage and worn herself out from hitting him did she finally stop.

Swallowing her pride, she called Elsie. Then she grabbed

the kid and headed out.

The next morning at eight sharp, Bethan had just arrived at the hospital when a tiny figure came running straight toward her.

Bethan crouched down and caught Henry in her arms.

Henry didn’t say a word. He buried his face against her, refusing to look up.

Bethan lifted Henry into her arms. He nestled against her shoulder and whispered, “Mommy.”

The word hit her right in the chest. She thought of her own baby-the one who never got the chance to be born.

Her heart ached as she stroked Henry’s head, but she didn’t correct him.

Calvin looked embarrassed. “I’m sorry, Dr. Olsen. Once Henry settles down, I’ll make sure he uses the right name for you.”
