Hugh finally got Megan into the treatment room at two-thirty that afternoon.

Half an hour later, Bethan had Megan completely under hypnosis.
With Bethan’s help, Hugh got every piece of information he needed from Megan.
Bethan couldn’t believe that underneath Megan’s whole innocent, timid act was someone so twisted-someone who could do such disgusting, horrible things. She’d schemed and manipulated without a second thought, even willing to destroy lives-all just to marry into
money.
What should’ve been a forty-minute session ended up taking an hour and a half.
Watching Megan sleep on the treatment bed, Bethan stopped Hugh. “She’s about to wake up. You can’t keep going.”

Hugh pocketed his recording device and pulled Bethan

He shut the door behind them. “You heard everything Megan just confessed. That’s why I kept her around.”
Bethan stood at the sink, washing her hands. “Hugh, I don’t care what’s going on between you two. She’s waking up soon-you need to get out of here.”
Hugh grabbed her arm and spun her around to face him. His voice was tight, like he was barely holding it together. “Bethan, I screwed up because of Megan before. I hurt you, and I hate myself for it. But I never wanted to leave you for her.”
“I know you haven’t forgiven me yet. I’ll wait, I’ll do whatever it takes to earn your forgiveness. Just… please don’t be so cold to me.”
Bethan pushed him away, her face serious. “Hugh, not every mistake deserves to be forgiven. Stop being so stubborn.”
Before she could finish, they both heard sounds from outside.
Hugh opened the bathroom door to find his assistant Joe Walking in. Their eyes met for a second before Bethan 8:14

stepped out.
Joe walked up to Bethan, whispering, “Dr. Olsen, she’s about to wake up.”
Bethan nodded, looking over at Megan lying on the treatment bed.
Megan’s eyelashes fluttered as she slowly woke up.
The second she opened her eyes, she reached for her phone. When she saw the time, her face darkened as she confronted Bethan. “Didn’t you say the treatment was forty minutes? Why did I sleep until four o’clock? What did you do to me?”
Bethan stayed quiet, glancing toward Hugh as he came out of the bathroom.
Hugh walked over to the bed, keeping his voice casual. “You fell asleep during treatment. I told them not to wake you-let you get some rest. How do you feel now?”
Hearing Hugh’s explanation, Megan visibly relaxed. She pressed her forehead, acting all weak. “It was nice to finally get some sleep. My head doesn’t hurt as much 14

With fake sweetness, she added, “No wonder so many celebrities come to Dr. Olsen. She’s really amazing.”
Bethan stood back, quietly watching Megan’s little performance. She’d only hypnotized the woman-hadn’t actually treated her at all.
Joe gave Megan some aftercare instructions, then basically pushed her to leave.
Hugh stayed silent. When he walked past Bethan, his steps slowed for just a moment. He glanced at her, then left the office with Megan by his side.
Outside the hospital, Hugh had his driver take Megan home first.
Megan hung around beside him, not wanting to leave. “Hugh, it’s my birthday in a couple days. Will you be free?”
Hugh’s gaze softened as he looked at her. “I’ve been too caught up with work to take care of you properly. I know it’s been rough. But on your birthday, I’ll give you something unforgettable-I promise. To make up for everything.”

Hugh’s words made Megan’s heart race with excitement. She nodded eagerly. “I don’t care about gifts-as long as you’re there for my birthday, I’ll be happy.”
Hugh nodded, and Megan obediently got into the car.
Through the window, Megan watched Hugh get into Jacob’s car, unable to hide her smile.
Hugh had promised her an unforgettable birthday gift. Coming from him, it had to be something crazy expensive.
Megan pressed her hands to her racing heart, her mind going wild with fantasies. Finally, all her suffering would pay off.
By the roadside, Hugh watched Megan’s car disappear, his expression slowly turning ice cold. He got into Jacob’s car and handed over the recording device.
“All the leads and evidence are on this recorder,” Hugh said, his face scary dark. “I’m giving you three days. Put together all the evidence, run another paternity test on Hudson, then bring those two people to me.”

Jacob nodded. “Don’t worry, Mr. Cavill. I’ll take care of it right away.”
After briefing Jacob, Hugh got out of the car.
Just past 5:30, Hugh saw Bethan leaving the outpatient building and walked up to her.
Bethan stopped. “Why haven’t you left yet?”
Hugh reached for the bag in her hand. Bethan hesitated, then didn’t give it to him.
His hand dropped to his side. “Thank you for helping me today. I made dinner reservations—”
Before Hugh could finish, Bethan cut him off. “I agreed to help because I owed you a favor. No thanks needed. My parents are expecting me home for dinner.”
“I’ll drive you home-it’s on my way. There are some things I want to ask you.”
Bethan looked around, then walked with Hugh toward the little park in front of the hospital.

Hugh stared at her for a long moment, his face full of pain. “Why did you give back the card I gave you?”
It was exactly what Bethan had expected. She wasn’t surprised. Her expression stayed cold, her tone distant. “Hugh, being able to divorce you is already the best thing that could happen to me. I don’t need your money.”
Something snapped in Hugh. He grabbed her arm and pulled her close, forcing her to face him.
