Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 296

Chapter 296 What Does This Have to Do with My Wife?

An hour later, at Cavill Manor.

Mason and Hugh got out of the car.

Mason couldn’t help but ask, “Why are you dragging me into your family drama?”

Hugh glanced at Mason but didn’t say anything.

Logan rushed over to meet them. “Mr. Cavill, Mr. Martin, thank God you’re here! They’ve been screaming at each other forever. Please, you have to calm them down.”

Hugh and Mason looked at each other before walking into the living room.

The living room felt like a war zone. Broken glass was everywhere.

Harvey sat in his chair looking pissed, not saying a word. Ryan stood in the middle of the room, his face red with

anger.

When Fiona saw Hugh and Mason walk in, she finally let go of Gwen.

Mason’s eyes immediately caught the handprint on Gwen’s face, and his expression went dark.

“Ryan,” he said, “can’t you just talk things out? Gwen’s a grown woman—why are you hitting her?”

Mason defending her just made Gwen cry harder.

She covered her face and moved closer to Mason. “Mason, my dad slapped me twice,” she sobbed.

Mason pulled Gwen close, rubbing her shoulder and whispering, “Hey, hey. Don’t cry. When he’s old and gray, you’ll get him back-ice cream in the dead of winter, heavy coats in the middle of summer.”

Hugh caught Mason’s muttering and gave him a look.

Ryan had always been hot-headed.

Hégestured sharply at Gwen. “Mason, she’s twenty-four 5

marriage. And look at how she’s acting right now!”

Mason put on his most charming smile. “Ryan, daughters take after their dads. With your amazing judgment, if you let Gwen pick for herself, she’ll do great.”

Ryan snorted. “This is all Bethan’s fault-that woman messed with Gwen’s head!”

Hugh frowned. “Dad, stick to the actual issue. Don’t drag other people into this.”

Fiona spoke up. “The Cavill family doesn’t need Gwen’s marriage to stay powerful in New York anymore. She’s my daughter, and her marriage isn’t some business deal for you to arrange!”

Ryan lost it again.

He pointed at Fiona. “This is your fault, woman! When Hugh was getting married, you said to let him choose. And look what happened!”

Ryan kept going, “He picked some broke girl who didn’t help the Cavill family at all-she just held Hugh back!”

Seeing things about to explode, Mason quietly grabbed Gwen’s purse and phone from the couch and smoothly got Gwen out of there.

After Mason took Gwen away, Hugh walked over to his parents.

“Dad,” he said quietly, “don’t talk to Mom like that.”

Ryan couldn’t believe Hugh was standing up to him.

He pointed at Hugh in shock. “Am I wrong?”

Ryan said, “If she hadn’t interfered back then, you would’ve married someone from one of the top families. You might have kids by now! Would we be dealing with this mess?”

Hugh’s face went dark.

He held back for a long moment.

“Dad,” he said, “when I married Bethan, that was my Choice. Nobody else’s. And the reason our marriage ended

Hugh continued, “Mom has sacrificed everything for Gwen and me since we were kids. She has every right to have a say in our marriages.”

Fiona was shocked that her son would actually defend her.

With tears in her eyes, Fiona pulled Hugh back a few steps.

“Hugh,” she said, “since all three of you are here today, let me be crystal clear: your sister will choose her own husband. None of you can force her.”

Ryan was so mad his face went crooked.

He pointed at Fiona and yelled, “What would you know? You’re just a woman!”

“As long as I’m breathing,” Ryan said stubbornly, “Gwen will marry up. I won’t let her throw herself away on some nobody. Before this year ends, she’s picking a husband from the Eight Prominent Families and getting engaged. That’s final!”

Fiona angrily turned to leave. “Logan, pack my stuff! 18:15

She didn’t want her daughter settling for less. But when it came to marriage, it had to be her daughter’s choice.

Ryan shot to his feet and followed her. “Hey! If you’ve got something to say, just say it! Why are you packing your stuff?”

Ryan tried to grab Fiona, but she shoved him away in disgust. “I can’t even make decisions about my own daughter. What am I even doing here?”

The words burst out before she could stop them. “Let’s get divorced!”

Ryan blocked her way. “Are you serious? We’ve been married for decades, and you’re going to do this now?”

Hugh watched his mom keep threatening divorce while his dad chased after her out of the living room. Exhausted, he sat down.

Harvey, who’d been silent this whole time, finally spoke.

He said to Hugh, “Hugh, a bad wife ruins three generations. Your mother and sister are acting like this because that woman Bethan influenced them.”

Hugh frowned. “Grandfather, you’re forcing an arranged marriage on Gwen. Mom and Gwen have every reason to be upset. What does this have to do with my wife?”

They stared at each other, and Hugh stood up, frustrated.

That evening, Hugh came home to Blue Bay, with Mason knocking and walking in right behind him.

Hugh tiredly threw his suit jacket aside. “Where’s Gwen?”

Mason said, “She went to find Bethan.”

Hugh froze for just a moment.

Mason plopped down beside him, massaging his arm. “Seriously, what’s wrong with you Cavill guys? Why the obsession with arranged marriages? I spent hours calming Gwen down, and look-she nearly took my arm

off.”

Hugh was quiet for a moment before standing up.

Mason grabbed him. “Finally got an excuse to go to the Olsen house, huh?”

Mason said, “Don’t get your hopes up. Even if you go, they won’t let you in.”

At the same time, at the Olsen house.

Gwen was curled up on the couch in Bethan’s bedroom, her eyes red and puffy.

“Bethy,” she said, “what if Grandfather and Dad really sell me off?”

Bethan tried to comfort her. “Gwen, the Cavill family is New York’s top elite. If you do get married, it’ll definitely be to someone on your level.”

Gwen’s face fell. “Bethy, the problem is I haven’t

met anyone I like yet. I don’t know any of the guys

Grandfather picked for me. How could I possibly agree to marry them?”

Bethan watched Gwen closely, reading her reaction.

She asked carefully, “The Martins are one of the eight prominent families. You’ve known Mason your whole life —you two grew up together. How do you feel about him?” 8/9

She held out both hands to Bethan. “Bethy, Mason and I are practically siblings. Holding hands with him would feel wrong-like holding my own hand. He’s looked after me since we were kids. I’ve never seen him that way.”

Bethan didn’t know what to say.

Seeing a text from Hugh pop up on her phone, Bethan picked up the phone and took a look.

She then put her phone away and said to Gwen, “Your brother’s here to pick you up. He’s at the door. Do you want to go back with him?”

Gwen felt a bit scared and reluctantly stood up.

Bethan put on her coat and walked Gwen out.

Hugh glanced at Gwen and said, “Wait in the car. I need to talk to Bethan about something.”
