Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 307

Chapter 307 Why Aren’t You Wearing the Necklace

They stared at each other, inches apart. Hugh’s eyes darkened, a storm brewing in their depths.

He fell silent for a long, tense beat before finally speaking. “Bethan, even if we’re divorced, even if you can’t forgive me now… we were childhood friends for over twenty years. You know I’d never hurt you.”

Bethan’s expression stayed cold, sarcasm dripping from her voice. “I trusted you because of those twenty years. I leaned on you, even married you without hesitation- knowing full well you didn’t love me.

“I thought, at the very least, you’d spare me pain. But look how that turned out.”

Their gazes clashed, neither backing down.

Hugh’s lips twitched, a sharp pain twisting his chest, but no words came.

The air in the car grew thick, suffocating.

Bethan looked away, reaching for the door handle. But Hugh grabbed her wrist.

She whipped back around, and he met her eyes, his voice raw. “I’m sorry. This is all my fault.”

Seeing her growing impatience, Hugh switched gears, leaning in to whisper. “Without you, my insomnia’s worse. The medicine you gave me ran out.”

Bethan’s tone turned strictly professional. “If you need more, make an appointment.”

She reached for the door again, but Hugh lost control, yanking her into his arms.

She struggled, but he held on tight, burying his face in

her neck.

His muffled voice sounded broken. “If I don’t make an

appointment… will you really just abandon me?”

Bethan pressed her hands to his chest, shoving hard. “We’re done. Whether you live or die is none of my business.”

In the cramped car, they grappled fiercely.

Suddenly, Hugh froze, his gaze fixed on her bare neck. “Why aren’t you wearing the necklace I gave you?”

Bethan wrenched free, straightening her clothes. “Whether I wear it or not is my choice. It has nothing to do with you.”

Hugh’s voice strained. “Before the divorce, we agreed. You promised you’d always wear it.”

Bethan scoffed. “I made a lot of promises to you.”

She tried to escape again, but he caught her wrist.

The standoff resumed, but Hugh’s tone turned

unyielding. “You can throw all the fits you want, but you have to wear that necklace.”

Bethan shook off his hand. “It’s just a necklace. So what if I threw it away?”

Hugh gripped the back of her neck, pulling her close, his eyes blazing. “Where did you throw it? Take me there 394.”

Bethan’s temper flared. “Down a storm drain. You’ll never

find it.”

She stared back, daring him to challenge her.

Hugh’s chest heaved, his breath ragged.

After a tense pause, his voice carried a dangerous edge. “One more chance. Either take me to find it, or I’m taking you home.”

Bethan saw the warning in his eyes.

Something was off with him today. Why was he so

obsessed with a necklace?

She sighed. “It’s at home.”

Hugh was acting weird. Bethan didn’t want to set him off.

“Take me there,” he said flatly.

“Are you insane?” Bethan exploded.

It was just a necklace. Even with diamonds, it was pocket

change to him. Why the dramatic scene?

She grabbed the door handle, but Hugh hauled her onto his lap, trapping her.

“Olsen House,” he ordered the driver.

Bethan panicked. She still had work that afternoon!

She struggled in his arms. “Hugh, let me go!”

Hugh held her even tighter, his face pressed to her shoulder. “Keep squirming, and don’t blame me for what happens.”

Bethan froze, then snapped. “We’re divorced! Touch me, and I’ll report you for assault-make sure you rot in jail!”

Hugh went silent.

He missed her, craved her, but he wasn’t crazy enough to cross that line.

The ride was filled with her struggles, but he refused to

let go.

When the car stopped at Olsen House, Bethan stumbled out, exhausted. She had no idea what had gotten into Hugh.

As they stepped onto the driveway, Arthur emerged, dressed casually.

He glanced at Hugh, then at Bethan. “Back so soon? With company?”

“Just grabbing something,” Bethan mumbled, avoiding his eyes.

Arthur nodded, his tone casual. “Your parents went for a walk. They’ll be back soon.”

The ease with which Arthur spoke, and his familiarity with Bethan’s parents, only served to deepen the unease in Hugh’s chest.

He watched as Arthur walked confidently toward the yard next door, and his face darkened.

He bit back any words that might have escaped, choosing instead to follow Bethan into the yard.

Bethan stopped suddenly, turning to face him. “Don’t come in. Wait here.”
