< Chapter 316 You’ll Be Fine
The butler, Scott Moody, opened the gate, and Bethan drove inside.
Following Scott into the mansion, she noticed something
strange.
Andy was nowhere to be seen. Not a single servant or bodyguard was around.
A chill ran down her spine.
Upstairs in the study, James sat quietly in his wheelchair by the floor-to-ceiling windows. He wore loose dark pajamas, his expression blank as he twisted a bracelet in his hand.
When Bethan entered, his demeanor shifted-sharp and alert.
“Mr. Keating, I finished work and thought I’d swing by to check on you,” she said.
James wheeled himself closer.
The hospital was over an hour north of here. She couldn’t have gotten here this early. She was lying to his face

without batting an eye.
He said nothing, so Bethan knelt beside him and adjusted the thin blanket over his legs.
“I drove all this way. Let me take a look at you.”
James held out his arm, giving her a sidelong glance. “How generous of you.”
Bethan smiled. “Of course.”
As she examined him, Bethan took stock of his condition.
She’d seen he was injured before but hadn’t pried. He seemed okay now, with no obvious signs of pain.
The second she finished, James told Isaac to escort her
home.
Bethan stood slowly, testing the waters. “Mr. Keating, I think someone was watching me when I arrived.”
She told him everything about the suspicious men at the
gate.

James sent Isaac to check the security footage.
With Isaac gone, Bethan pressed on. “Those guys might have accomplices. What if they follow me home? What if they track down my family?”
She didn’t know what kind of trouble James was in, but she knew it was bad. She’d come to make sure he was safe, only to run into those creeps.
They’d seen her face and her license plate. If she left now, they might tail her.
Her parents were regular people, and her brother had just taken his SAT. She couldn’t risk putting them in danger.
Isaac returned and whispered something in James’ ear.
James looked at Bethan. “You’re staying the night. The room next to mine.”
Her heart skipped a beat.
At 1 AM, the mansion went dark, all power cut off.
Bethan had been sleeping lightly, her mind racing

Strange noises from the next room woke her, and she realized the electricity was out.
Remembering the suspicious men and James’ warning before bed, she didn’t turn on her phone’s flashlight. Instead, she felt her way to his door in the dark.
“Mr. Keating?”
The second she stepped into his room, a hand clamped over her mouth and shoved her into a cabinet under the
desk.
Following James’ silent signal, Bethan curled up in the cramped space, her heart pounding.
Someone had broken in. She couldn’t be a liability to
James.
Minutes later, a flashlight beam sliced through the darkness. The floor-to-ceiling window shattered as several masked figures burst through the door.
They swarmed James, who sat calmly in his wheelchair with only Isaac beside him.

Hidden in the cabinet, Bethan peeked through a crack. In the chaos, she saw the attackers wielding knives, all lunging for James.
Panic took over. She burst out of the cabinet and shoved
James’s wheelchair hard to the side.
Caught off guard, James rolled away from Isaac, toward the other end of the room.
Isaac froze.
Two knife-wielding men charged at Bethan. She dove
under the desk.
In that split second, Hugh burst through the door.
“Save Mr. Keating!” Bethan yelled, shoving Hugh toward the attackers.
Hugh had been about to ask if she was okay, but she’d already pushed him into action.
He moved fast, darting to James’ side.
James and Hugh found themselves back-to-back

surrounded by attackers.
Bethan rushed forward again to shield James.
Hugh watched her dart past him, throwing herself over James. He froze for a heartbeat.
