Chapter 317 Why the Fake Concern?
Bethan’s calm, quiet voice froze Hugh’s expression instantly.
He stared at her in disbelief. His injured body gave out, and he dropped to one knee on the floor.
Bethan had only known James for a short time. Yet when they were both in danger, she threw herself in front of James without thinking, leaving him to deal with it alone.
Afterward, James was the first person she ran to. She practically forgot he was there.
He knew she hadn’t forgiven him. But he never thought she’d stop caring whether he lived or died.
Just then, Isaac stepped in. “Mr. Keating, everything’s cleaned up.”
James told Isaac, “Take Mr. Cavill to the hospital.”
Isaac hurried over to help Hugh up.

Hugh gritted his teeth against the pain, his expression dark as he warned James. “Play your games all you want, but leave Bethan out of it. She’s nothing like you.”
James’ gaze flicked over to Hugh’s injuries, his eyes narrowing as if savoring the discomfort.
He spoke slowly, his tone dripping with intent. “I’m not sure if Bethan and I are alike. But I’m certain she and you definitely aren’t anymore.”
Hugh’s face turned terrifyingly cold. He grabbed Bethan’s wrist. “Come with me.”
Just then, Ryan’s video call popped up on Hugh’s phone.
Bethan’s expression hardened. She yanked her hand free.
Unexpectedly, Hugh stumbled and collapsed onto the
floor.
James and Bethan stared in shock.
Hugh struggled to answer the call.
On the screen, Ryan immediately noticed something was

wrong. “Hugh, where are you? Why do you look so terrible?”
Hugh lifted his phone to show the room. Ryan saw James and Bethan.
“I’m at Keating Mansion, Dad. I’m fine,” Hugh said.
Before he could finish, the phone slipped from his hand and clattered to the floor. He fumbled to cover his wound
while reaching for it.
Ryan’s roar came through loud and clear. “Hugh, you’re hurt?!”
“Is this because of that Bethan again?” he demanded.
Hugh glanced at Bethan. “I couldn’t just watch her get hurt.”
From the other end, Ryan’s furious threats to confront the Olsen family mixed with Fiona’s worried questions. Hugh hung up abruptly.
Bethan and James exchanged a look.

Hugh had done this on purpose-making sure the Cavill family knew he’d been injured because of her and James.
Given his family’s temper, Harvey and Randolph would definitely show up at Keating Mansion tomorrow demanding answers.
And Ryan would blame her for Hugh’s injuries, maybe even harass her parents.
Thinking about those two older men, Bethan felt a headache coming on.
If she’d had a choice, she’d rather be injured herself than drag the Cavills into this.
Now that it had come to this, she needed to avoid more
trouble.
She didn’t want to owe anyone, and she didn’t want to cause problems.
After a brief hesitation, Bethan walked over and helped Hugh up.
Hugh’s dark eyes fixed on her, his brow furrowed in pain.

“I’ll take you to the hospital,” Bethan said.
Bethan and Isaac brought Hugh to the emergency room, and Isaac left shortly after.
By five in the morning, Hugh was settled in a VIP room, still unconscious.
After talking to the doctor, Bethan learned he had two deep stab wounds. He lost so much blood before surgery that he passed out.
A faint worry gnawed at her.
If Harvey and Randolph found out Hugh had been stabbed twice and nearly bled out…
She could only imagine how heartbroken and furious they’d be.
******
Near noon the next day, Hugh finally woke up.
He looked around the room and saw Ryan, Fiona, Gwen,

and two unfamiliar women.
“Mom, who are they?” Hugh asked Fiona.
The two middle-aged women stepped forward. “Hello, Mr. Cavill. We’re the caregivers Dr. Olsen hired to look after you.”
Caregivers?
Hugh’s face darkened. “Where is she?”
“She went home early this morning,” one woman replied.
Hugh fell silent.
Ryan’s face turned livid. “I knew that woman was no good! You get injured saving her, and she just dumps you here and vanishes!”
He turned to Fiona. “We’re going to the Olsen family right now. I want to ask them how they raised such a daughter!”
“Dad!” Hugh struggled to sit up, wincing in pain. “This is between me and Bethan. Leave her family out of it’

Fiona pointed at Ryan. “With an old hothead like you in the Cavill family, no wonder Hugh’s marriage fell apart!”
Gwen spoke up quietly. “Bethan was at Keating Mansion, but she didn’t ask Hugh to save her. Hugh went on his own, so this was his choice. Dad, don’t go looking for trouble.”
She glanced nervously at Hugh, then hid behind Fiona.
Ryan’s neck veins bulged with anger. “All of you, be quiet!
“Hugh got seriously hurt because of her,” he snapped. “If the Olsen family doesn’t give us an explanation, this isn’t
over!”
Standing outside the door, Bethan frowned as she heard Ryan’s words.
Last night, Hugh had deliberately let his family know he’d been injured at Keating Mansion. And it was because of her:
What happened now was exactly what he wanted.
