Chapter 349 You’re Not Dead
The voice jolted Mason out of his wits.
Lucky Draw
Turning around, he saw Hugh had woken up in the hospital bed.
Mason cleared his throat and casually explained, “Your sister seems to snore in her sleep. I was just checking it out.”
Hugh rolled his eyes and shut them tight, looking utterly fed up.
The commotion roused Gwen from her slumber. Spotting Hugh covered with a white sheet in the bed, she let out a wail and
dissolved into tears.
Mason nearly jumped out of his skin again.
Before he could collect himself, Gwen flung herself onto the bed, sobbing uncontrollably.
“Hugh, my dear brother!
“You’re the only brother I’ve got. The Cavill Group depends on you to rake in the dough. What’ll we do if you’re gone?
“Bethan might have left you, but you’ve still got Mom, Dad, Grandpa, and me. How could you be so weak-kneed and just… kick the bucket? Waaah…”
Gwen’s outburst left the two men in the room completely
stunned.

Just as Hugh was about to reach out to comfort her, Gwen landed a solid punch on his stomach. “Hugh, you haven’t told me your bank password yet. Waaah…”
“Ugh…” Hugh’s legs shot straight out, and he nearly blacked out from the pain.
“For crying out loud, that’s over the top!”
Mason quickly pulled Gwen off Hugh, yanked the sheet away, and helped Hugh sit up.
It took Gwen a while to stop blubbering. Opening her eyes and seeing Hugh alive, she looked bewildered. “Hugh, you’re not dead?”
Hugh, holding his stomach with a scowl, snapped, “Go get your head examined.”
Gwen pouted. “Mason, Hugh called me an idiot.”
Mason glanced at Hugh. “Gwen was just worried sick about you. Why are you giving her a hard time?”
“Wasn’t it you who wanted to chew her out?” Hugh retorted.
Gwen looked even more confused
Feeling a bit sheepish, Mason coaxed Gwen out of the ward. He asked her to go home, dig up some info, and bring back some soup to soothe Hugh’s aching stomach.

After Gwen left, Mason shut the ward door and pulled up a chair next to Hugh’s bed.
Trying to reason with Hugh, he said, “Since you’ve decided to move on, try to look on the bright side. The whole Cavill Group is counting on you. Your life isn’t just your own.”
Hugh lay on the bed, his eyes fixed blankly on the ceiling. Then, as if reliving a painful memory, he squeezed his eyes shut.
Concerned about Hugh’s state, Mason got up. “I’ll go fetch the doctor.”
After Mason left, Hugh slowly opened his eyes.
He shot off a message, and soon Jacob showed up in the ward. “Mr. Cavill.”
Hugh propped himself up. He told Jacob, “Starting tomorrow, you don’t need to go into the office.”
“Ah?” Jacob was taken aback.
Was he getting fired for blabbing about Hugh’s condition?
Hugh continued, “Pick two tough guys from the Cavill family bodyguards. Starting tomorrow, you’re in charge of keeping Bethan safe.”
Jacob hesitated. “Mr. Cavill, I’m just a desk jockey. I’m not cut out for this kind of thing.”

“You just need to step in if there’s any trouble around her. You don’t have to go all Rambo.” Hugh frowned.
With Harvey, Ryan, Maria, and the Potter family lurking about, Bethan was bound to run into trouble.
It was all his fault, and he was determined to clear the path for her and give her a peaceful life.
Jacob wrung his hands nervously. “Mr. Cavill, Mrs. Cavill’s friends are no pushovers. What if we get caught?”
Hugh offered, “I’ll double your salary and year-end bonus.”
Jacob cleared his throat. “Don’t worry, Mr. Cavill. I’ll make sure Mrs. Cavill stays out of harm’s way.”
Just then, Mason walked back into the ward and asked, “What’re you two talking about?”
Jacob replied politely, “Nothing much. I was just telling Mr. Cavill to stay in the hospital for a few more days and get well before heading back to the company.”
Mason gave Jacob a punch of moderate force and quipped, “Yeah, right! You’re full of it!”
With his head down and hand covering the spot on his chest where he’d been hit, Jacob scurried out of the hospital ward, looking sheepish.
