Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 363

Chapter 363 What Is Love

With a quick turn, Arthur announced, “Mason, I’m gonna grab some late-night snacks and head over to Bethy. She can’t stay up all night. I gotta relieve her so she can catch some sleep.”

Mason glanced at Hugh on the sofa and then followed Arthur to the door, blocking his way.

“Arthur, you’re such a proud guy. How come you’re so nice to Bethan and always listen to her?”

Arthur straightened his face. “Well, of course! Bethy’s gorgeous, a great doctor, and she’s good to me.”

Mason looked back at Hugh in the private room. “I don’t see how she’s good to you.”

“You wouldn’t get it. When she first treated me, I always snapped at her, but she never gave up. She even introduced me to a bunch of her friends.

“She knew I had a rough relationship with my grandpa and often tried to talk me around. One rainy night, she searched for me for hours. She was so exhausted that she almost fell asleep standing in front of the stove, but still managed to cook for me.

like a queen,” Arthur rambled on.

After Arthur left, Mason returned to the private room.

Bethan’s sincere nature was inherited from her parents.

The Olsen family was known for their kind-heartedness. Barry, in particular, was straightforward and had no ill intentions.

Noticing Hugh’s off-color, Mason walked over. “Where’d you put your medicine? I’ll go get it.”

Hugh tightened his grip on the empty glass, his voice hoarse and his eyes blank.

Ever since he swore on the island to leave Bethan alone, his heart had died.

No medicine could save him.

Closing his eyes in pain, Hugh murmured, “I’m okay.”

Knowing Hugh wasn’t drunk, Mason sat beside him and poured a glass of water.

Hugh replied off-topic, “Let Mom and Gwen stay at the Kroos’ for a while. Let them have some peace.”

“Is it okay to leave the two old guys at home?” Mason asked.

Hugh lowered his head, his lips tightly shut.

Mason sighed, “Hugh, Bethan is nice to Arthur, Mr. Keating, Calvin, and everyone. It’s just her nature. She’s as pure and sincere as her parents. That innocence and sincerity were first given to you, but you let it slip away.”

Hugh was sitting on the sofa, his suit jacket casually draped over his legs.

Leaning forward, he dug his elbows into his knees and ran his hands through his hair.

Mason knew Hugh was in pain, but still wanted to remind him, “Hugh, some mistakes can’t be undone. Let it go and stop being so stubborn.”

Hugh slumped back on the sofa, covering his chest with one hand. “I want to let it go, but I can’t!”

At night, when he was alone at home, lying in the big bed they once shared, he dared not close his eyes.

Her coldness became an impenetrable wall, blocking every path of retreat for him.

She remained unmoved, offering no chance for Hugh to atone for his blunders. With a cold and detached gaze, Bethan

watched as guilt and remorse gnawed away at his soul.

Under Bethan’s icy treatment, Hugh was on the brink of losing his mind.

Hugh pulled out the crystal pendant he always kept close, his fingers trembling as they grazed the small photo sealed inside by Bethan herself.

His eyes blood-red from sleepless nights and heartache, voice quivering with pain, he let out a self-loathing curse, “I’m a damned fool!”

Mason, noticing the pendant in his friend’s hand, couldn’t help but frown.

“Toss that thing out,” he said, reaching out to grab it.

But Hugh tightened his grip, holding it as if it were his lifeline.

“Come on, Hugh. That thing’s gonna kill you slowly,” Mason urged, his voice laced with concern.

pendant for Hugh.

It wasn’t a simple memento; it was a relentless reminder of his mistakes, a curse hanging over his head.

Hugh held the pendant tightly in his fist, shaking his head firmly. “This is the only piece of Bethy I’ve got left. There’s no way I’m letting it go.”

Seeing that his persuasion was in vain, Mason gave up.

Looking at Hugh drowning in his own misery, he hesitated for a moment before asking, “Do you love Bethan, really?”
