Chapter 365 Couldn’t Let Go
Mason exclaimed, “I’ve got a real emergency and gotta head back right now. I’ll send Gwen over to pick you up.”
Once Mason was out of the private room, Hugh downed several glasses of booze in quick succession.
Suddenly, as if a lightning bolt had struck him, a
self-deprecating laugh escaped his lips.
The louder he laughed, the redder and more bloodshot his eyes
became.
It wasn’t about resentment.
It was that he just couldn’t let go.
Hugh’s hand clutching the wine glass shook uncontrollably.
Even if he bared his soul, who would believe him?
Not even his former self could have anticipated that life without Bethan would be a fate worse than death.
Hugh squeezed his eyes shut in anguish as tears welled up and
wet the corners.

in front of the sofa.
“Jesus, Hugh!” Gwen shrieked in shock the moment she stepped into the room and took in the scene. She reached for her phone, but Hugh stopped her.
Gwen slung her arm around Hugh’s and urged, “Come on, Hugh. I’m taking you straight to the hospital.”
Hugh fixed his sister with a look and asked, “Gwen, do you also think I don’t deserve to be forgiven?”
At his question, Gwen’s nose twitched, and her eyes welled up.
Her voice quivering, she said, “Hugh, everyone messes up. Just make it right. Stop torturing yourself like this, or you’re really gonna get sick.”
With the back of his hand, Hugh wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth.
There was a time when he held the same belief.
He thought he had all his life to make up for his mistakes and win Bethan back.
However, the hard truth hit him like a brick: Bethan wouldn’t

hospital. With no other option, Gwen threatened to call their mom, Fiona.
Hugh reluctantly agreed to go the next morning.
After Gwen got Hugh home, she had the family doctor check him out and put him on a drip. Then she kept vigil by his bedside all night.
The next morning, Gwen upped the ante, saying she’d call Fiona if Hugh didn’t go to the hospital. After some cajoling, Hugh finally relented and agreed to go for further tests and
treatment.
On the way, Gwen pulled over at a diner to grab breakfast.
Hugh hopped out of the car and ordered a cup of unsweetened almond milk and a couple of buttery bread.
Gwen couldn’t help but steal a glance at Hugh. Bethan was about unsweetened almond milk and croissants.

Once at the hospital, Gwen went off to track down Hugh’s doctor.
Looking at the breakfast in Hugh’s hand, she said, “Let me take
it to her, Hugh.”

Gwen hesitated for a moment but didn’t push it.
A dozen minutes later, Hugh rapped on Bethan’s office door. To his surprise, she was already there.
Hugh stood in the doorway, and Bethan was inside. Their eyes locked for an awkward second.
Checking her watch, she coolly quipped, “Has the Cavill Group gone belly-up, Mr. Cavill? Don’t you have a business to run?”
Hugh stepped into the office and plunked the breakfast on her desk. His eyes then landed on another set of breakfast sitting
there.
Bethan gave the breakfast Hugh brought a cursory glance and said, “Keep it for yourself. I’m swamped. See yourself out.”
Then, she picked up the breakfast she’d bought and turned to leave. On a whim, Hugh grabbed her wrist.
Bethan whirled around, and Hugh demanded, “Going to deliver breakfast to Calvin?”
She yanked her hand free. “What’s it to you?”
Pointing at the breakfast in Bethan’s hand, Hugh demanded,
his face twisting in jealousy. “It’s a good couple of miles out of

your way for him. What the hell does he have that makes you do all this?”
Bethan nodded matter-of-factly. “He’s worth it. I not only got up early to get him breakfast but also plan to spoon-feed him. Any problem with that, Mr. Cavill?”
Hugh’s heart ached at Bethan’s stinging retort.
The familiar pain shot through his body like a lightning bolt. Reaching out, he grabbed the edge of the desk to steady
himself.
Seeing Bethan about to leave, Hugh hunched over and blocked her way. “Bethy, I’ve got a killer stomachache,” he pleaded.
Bethan replied impassively, “This is a hospital. Go downstairs, register, and they’ll cut out whatever’s hurting.”
She turned to leave again.
But then, there was an odd sound behind her. Bethan spun around.
