Breaking Point of Divorce (Hugh and Bethan) novel Chapter 368

Chapter 368 Her Goodness

Calvin spoke up, “Mr. Cavill, you got any idea why Dr. Olsen’s refusing to forgive you?”

Hugh’s head drooped, and his hands at his sides balled into tight fists.

“Look, everyone makes a mistake once in a while. But doing it a second time? That’s a choice. Deliberately hurting someone? That’s something that can be easily forgiven.”

Hugh’s voice cracked as he asked, “Did she tell you all this stuff?”

“Yeah. One night, Dr. Olsen had one too many. She was blubbering and told me something. When she found out about your cheating, she tried like hell to get you back. But your cold shoulder made all her efforts seem so stupid. And when she tried to use suicide to get you to come around, and you just brushed her off? She said in that moment, she felt like dirt.”

Hugh leaned his hands on the window frame, his eyes squeezed shut in agony.

Calvin continued his lecture, “When you really love someone, you can’t help but feel for them. You bend over backward for

“If you truly loved her, you’d never let her go through all that pain. You’d be there to pick her up when she’s down and stay by her side when she’s hurting.

“True love? It’s about building each other up, relying on one another, and growing together. It’s a two-way street.”

After listening to Calvin, Hugh turned around slowly, his head hanging low.

Just as Hugh reached the ward door, Calvin called out from behind, “Mr. Cavill, she’s spent over two decades of her life wrapped around you. Instead of helping her soar, you almost dragged her down into the dirt. You don’t love her. Not really.”

Hugh was in a daze as he left the hospital. He made his way home like a zombie, his mind replaying every word Calvin had

said.

He collapsed onto the couch, his eyes fixed blankly on the ceiling.

Memories of Bethan came flooding back. When they were about to tie the knot, his grandfather and father insisted that Bethan quit her job and be a proper housewife. Without a moment’s hesitation, she said yes.

After their honeymoon, a project at his company hit a major snag. Hugh was hesitant to use the new employee’s backup plan.

It was Bethan who showed up with a basin of warm water for his foot soak. Crouching by his legs, she coaxed him, “Come on, let the new folks have their moment. Give it a go, will you?”

In their second year of marriage, he faced a tough rival in business. Bethan was his cheerleader, always there to tell him not to throw in the towel.

To help him get the resources Hugh needed, she went to all those stuffy business dinners, chatting up rich ladies to get him in good with the bigwigs.

Time and time again, Bethan caved in to his grandfather and father on his behalf, just to buy the family a little peace and quiet.

She’d given up her career dreams, learned to cook fancy dishes, and even studied traditional medicine to take care of him.

She went to places she hated and mingled with people she couldn’t stand, all for his sake.

When Hugh had insomnia, she’d lie awake with him, stroking

When he was away on business, Bethan would call him every day to make sure he was eating well and getting enough rest.

And if anyone dared to say a bad word about him, she’d go into mama-bear mode and give them a piece of her mind.

It finally dawned on him that all this time, it wasn’t Bethan who was clinging to him.

It was him who’d been leaning on her strength and love to get through life.

At that moment, a sudden epiphany seemed to strike Hugh.

When Mason walked in, he immediately spotted Hugh curled up on the couch, shivering violently.

Without a word, Mason quickly fetched some medicine.

There were stomachache pills, heart-pain tablets, sleeping pills –a handful of colorful pills of all sorts. He didn’t bother to count and just popped them into Hugh’s mouth.

After that, Mason helped Hugh back to his room.

It didn’t take long, but the effort left Mason sweating.

With red-rimmed eyes, he looked at Mason and asked, “Is it too late for me to love her now?”

Mason widened his eyes. “Love? Bullshit. There’s no such thing as true love in this world. It’s all about lust at first sight and weighing the pros and cons.”

Slumping on the bed, Hugh muttered, “Bethan’s love for me is real!”

Mason sat down on the edge of the bed and patted Hugh’s shoulder. “That little minx Bethan? She’s just after your body and your money. Her family went bankrupt, and she wants a sugar daddy. She’s got her own agenda, man. Wake up! That’s not love!”

Hugh turned to his side, facing away from Mason, and closed his eyes, trying to hide the bloodshot look. “Get out of here!”

Mason rubbed his nose and heard Hugh’s muffled sobs. He walked around to the other side of the bed. “Finally got it, huh?”

Seeing that Hugh didn’t respond, Mason sighed, “Hugh, it’s all too late.”

Mason continued, “I won’t go into detail, but there are at least
